itunes backup

How do I back up an entire itunes library?
There must be an easier way than to burn all 700+ songs to CDs...

I need to remove it off a young teenagers PC that is infected with a virus.
I plan to reformat the hard drive and reload saved photos and itunes.

The virus is the "inetget2" .....recieved from the AIM website...
Not all that damaging, but beyond my patience and skill to remove.

It is easier (for me) to back up photos and itunes and reformat harddrive and rebuild from there...
That I can do!

Thanks...:howdy:

:yeahthat: One of the best investments you will ever make! I have a 500GB and my friend just got a 750GB Seagate for a little over a hundred bucks. It is well worth the money! Seagate's are top of the line right now. I highly recommend getting the one that uses the firewire connection (1394) it is a heck of a lot faster than the usual USB connection! Good Luck! :huggy:

Cool! That does make it easier! I don't know if you know about this shortcut on the keyboard, click on one item then hit ctrl+A and it will highlight all the songs then you just need to click on and drag the whole group or cut and paste. Have fun! :howdy:

Excellent idea! I only wish my teen was a girl and I could do the same. His head is stuck in his pants for the next several years and he can't seem to absorb any knowledge! :lmao:

Now. Because I am a backup tard and had a...situation...last summer that freaked me out, I have Mozy backup.

For $5 a month, it will automatically back up your important files to a remote server. You have a crash, Mozy has your stuff.

Online Backup, Data Backup & Remote Backup Solutions from Mozy.com – Welcome

WOW....5 bucks...such a deal!!!!

But for the teens PC....it is copy and save photos and tunes and reformat drive and reload WinXp and all the other stuff.....

Everything I have found about this virus does not give me an easy way to remove it.

And said teen does not have a lot of important stuff on this PC....so it is not a big deal to copy to external drive.

But for me...5 bucks is a great deal!!!!
Thanks V!!!:howdy:

That kinda scares the crap outta me that someone would have that easy access to my important files. You are basically giving them permission to snoop. Nice idea, but no thanks. :nono:

It's own. As soon as you plug it in it has you install the software that is preloaded. It will create a back up that you can name and you can schedule it to do a backup too. I mostly drag and drop or ctrl+A everything and just paste it in prenamed folders because I like that better, that way I know what is backed up and leave out unnecessary stuff. But I let it back up my emails always!

Here is a 1TB that is at a reasonable price.

Amazon.com: Seagate ST310005FPA1E3-RK Freeagent Pro 1 TB 3.5-Inch USB 2.0/FireWire 400 External Hard Drive: Electronics

I went with a NAS in the house, for less than $300 I have a RAID 0 (mirrored) device with 500GB of storage. it sits on the network and automatically spins the drives up and down (after 20 minutes of non-activity)

then set up a home network and back up all household systems to one box, then have the data saved on that one box backed up online and everything in the house is covered.

That is what my NAS is, Network Attached Storage... you can stripe the two drives or mirror them (what I did) for redundancy. The good thing with this is that it shows up on my home network as a remote share. It also goes to sleep and turns on fans as needed.

With the Linksys brand, there is no proprietary software that governs the data write transactions so if the NAS box dies, I can remove the drives/drive and connect it to a computer and copy my data off via Windows. Other manufacturers use software to write to the drives so you cannot remove the drives and connect them to a computer... mind you, all this is in a RAID 0, not RAID 5 - as windows does not understand the RAID 5 by just hooking the drives up to a host.

you could leave the songs on the remote drive and redirect iTunes to the new Dir ....
