Jim Brown ( Greatest Running Back To Ever Play The Game)

I'm not interested in trying to work on people's perceptions. I am who I am, and if you don't take the time to learn about that, then your perception is going to be your problem.

Emmitt Smith (and I HATE THE COWBOYS) is the iron man of the NFL
Bo Jackson would have crushed every record if he would have stayed healthy
Barry Sanders could juke God out of his shoes

There are just TO MANY great running backs to call 1 guy the greatest of all time

Why mention Bo Jackson?

Another quote from Jim Brown:

Don't ask me to compare myself to a half-a-season guy who didn't have to play in the snow or with blood in his nose or every third-and-1. Bo Jackson is a very fortunate person.

You can quote Jim Brown all you want, one of the best RB's in the BFL history, yes... the GREATEST, NO....

What basis are you using to maintain that Emmitt Smith was better?
More yardage? TD's? All done in more games than it took Brown, as well as done against a diluted product. Barry Sanders? Could have been, but got tired of losing and bailed before a legitimate comparison could be made.

AND....."coulds" and "ifs" should not enter this type of conversation. Because IF I wasn't thirty lbs overweight, balding, and almost 50 years old, I could have left Jennifer Aniston for Angelina Jolie. So Bo and Barry don't enter the conversation unless you're talking potential. And I don't think you were.

And Jim Brown isnt tested over time... how can you compare someone who had 1 great year, to people who have proven themselves over time, year after year...

Thats why I can compare all them others to him....

One great year?.....wow.

When you also take into account that Brown was the ONLY weapon at Paul Brown's disposal during his tenure; it makes his accomplishments all that more special. How many yards would Brown have run up in a 16 game schedule with Troy Aikman as his QB, and Irvin and Harper for Aikman to throw to? Meaning that the defense could not afford to stack 8 in the hopes of stopping the run. Paul Brown's offense consisted of Brown left, Brown right and Brown up the middle. The 21 other players on the fields knew it. The
100-odd personnel on the sidelines knew it. The ~20,000 fans in the stands knew it. And the folks watching at home knew it. Yet he still did it more often than not. Do you seriously think that any of those others could have performed at Brown's level throughout their careers. Granted, Sanders was the entirety of the Lion's offense, but again pare down his totals to equate them to a 10 or 12 game season and see what you come up with

Thats just it, I dont have to take any of their accomplishments and check it down to 10-16 games... Because there were not near the high quality athletes in the league then, as there are now...or when the others were doing what they did....

Like I said, Brown was great, but to call him the greatest is like me going out, playing 10 games with the 49ers right now, and putting up T.O stats from 04... EVERYONE would think I am the greatest WR of all time, when in true time, I aint shiat... 1 good year, no matter who you played with, doesnt make you the greatest, it just DOESNT....

And I can find yahoo searches agreeing with him, and disagreeing with him, Im not argueing him over this, Im argueing the fact, that you cant call him the greatest of all time, well, you can, but its a either way opinion, when I do a yahoo search, and it names 4-5 other RB's that can also be considered the greatest of all time....Its hard to just say, Jim Brown IS the greatest of all time... Im a firm believer time tested vets are the only ones who should be considered the "greatest".......

No argument here either, I just happened to find a supporting reference.

But as to the phrase "time tested vets" that is what I would classify as Jim Brown. And I agree that the speculation as to the "greatest of all time" will always be subjective due to how the game and players continue to evolve.

But I remember from my youth Brown's play and can only imagine what a work-horse like Brown could accomplish behind some of the awesome linemen that are out there now. Regardless of who anyone thinks is their personal greatest, Brown has to be considered as one of the best to have ever played the game.

Comparison

Jim Brown averaged 5.2 yards per carry and 9.5 yards per reception. Played in every game throughout his career.
Bo Jackson averaged 4.2 yards per carry and 6.3 yards per reception.
Barry Sanders averaged 5.0 yards per carry and 8.3 yards per reception.
Emmitt Smith averages 4.2 yards per carry and 6.3 yards per reception.

Just putting the numbers up, not making any claim as to which is/was the best.

In My Opinion
When it comes to running,
nobody can beat JPC when he is running from the police after spray painting a court house. Nobody.
