I'm in college now and when my 'rents paid to have me take the SAT in middle school I did but the scores didn't report when I tried to apply for colleges... I was pretty upset because I had absolutely slain the old reading section before they redid it and my scores were slightly lower on the new one.

All in all I WOULD say it's BS but it does give your child practice "playing the game" - that is, figuring out how to take stupid standardized tests that dictate what you do with your entire life. Although it's a sad game to play it's one that everyone has to, so why not get a jump on it?
