"Do you love your children? Do you appreciate the safety and security provided by your local police? Well send us some money to prove it!"

We already send them money via our tax dollars. If the state and county would be more fiscally responsible, the cops wouldn't have to go begging.

... "I paid off youse guys, Thursday. Get lost, Flatfoot!"

I thought SoMd citizens support them through speeding tickets. A birdie told me most of that money goes to the MSP retirement fund? Its true that 8 cents or 2 cents of that ticket actually goes to the local yokel budgets.... hmmm

Now heres an idea. Next time they call tell them you'll donate money when they start allowing honest law abiding citizens to carry firearms for the purpose of self protection. Apparently the Col of MSP doesn't think we have good and sufficient reason. Gotta get robbed first. :wench:

We supported them for years and then decided a couple years ago to stop. They won't stop calling. We had someone call just last week looking for money for the Maryland State Police and when my husband said no thank you he hung up on him.

Are they cops that call in their off time? The phone #'s that show up on my caller id are local. I was tempted to call him back and give him a few choice words.

If you're reading this ####### .. :nono: .. that's not a very good way of getting donations. :loser:

They're paid solicitors. If you say no, he's not getting paid to :blahblah: with you.

They take 60 cents for themselves and the remaining goes to "police fund".

If in doubt..ask them how much they skim off the top....then tell them to send you their financial statement..and see how quickly they hang up.
They hate that you know their gig.... :lmao:

I told the guy to send me something in the mail. They did. It said "Thank you for agreeing to donate, please remit your payment NLT XXMay2007.

"Remit payment"?

So far I have gotten calls from 3 or 4 different Sheriff's organizations.

Maryland Sheriff's Association, Association of Maryland County Sheriffs', Maryland Law Enforcement Association. all have a slightly different name.

I tore it up and put it in the "Payment envelope" and dropped it in the mail box since it was postage paid.
I'm going to start cutting out all the pictures of Sanjaya from my People magazines and mailing them back to them.

The majority are paid solicitors because I've asked them questions they couldn't answer. I made the mistake of thinking it was a good deal years ago and have been asking them to take me off their list - which they have done because most say they are being recorded. Problem is they then pass your number to some other cause. It may take a while but eventually you will cease to be called by any of them.

Or you can just go to the national do not call registery and enter your phone number. It takes about 3 weeks before it takes effect, but it does work and they do stop calling.

Did that. The National Do not Call registry does not affect local solicitors. I'm talking about the ones that do their own for the police widows association or whatever.

Then I would figure out some way besides the National Registry, like someone had said in a previous post, just send them in monopoly money. I think it would be interesting to see the look on there faces when they open that envelope.

Just ask to be put on their "do not call" list and then if they call you again you tell them you're going to report them to the FCC. There was a thread about this awhile back.
