An interesting aspect of the craft is its engines; they are standard-issue T-53-L model turbines as used on AH-1/UH-1 choppers. Plenty of support for those already in place in USN/USMC organizations.

The Lycoming hasn't been in use on military Bell Helicopters since, what, the mid- to late-70's? I know they rolled out the Super Cobra (AH-1J Sea Cobra) to the Fleet in early '75. One of the things that made it a Super Cobra was twin engines, vice the old single engine Lycoming T-53 and later, the T-55. The Sea Cobra had twin T-400 Pratt & Whitneys, as did the UH-1N. The AH-1W saw the introduction of the T-700 GE 401. Some earlier versions of the Cobra also flew the T-58, which was a belly-button engine for the H-46, the SH-2, and the H-3 variants. The AH-1Z uses the T-700-401C, as does the UH-1Y (don't quote me on the Yankee, though. Not positive they're using the Charlie 401, at least not yet).

Perhaps "as were used"; the T-53 is one of the most ubiquitous and easily supported GTs out there, was the point I was intending to make. Lots of legacy military history and lots of current civilian useage..LOTS. Including, racing boats, I might add.

The plans for the production versions of the GHOST actually include the incorporation of even larger GTs, including at least a couple from the list you provided above. For the self-funded prototype, cost was a big deal and T-53s are cheap. We started out with the 1400 HP variant and then upgraded to the L with 1800HP.
