If you have a 5 year and she wanted to be Dora. You buy her a costume and add to it some. She then changes her mind as of this morning and wants to be something else. Do you a) rush out and buy or make another costume either for her not wanting to ruin a Halloween for her "fond memories collection" or b) do you teach her a lesson in decisions and consequnces and have her go as Dora and stick with the original plan?

I'd probably try to accomodate the kid as long as it didn't involve a lot of effort and/or money while explaining that once you choose a costume, that's what we are working to and just can't change it.

This is easy. She chose Dora. She has a Dora costume now. She will be Dora tomorrow. Without further discussion or arguement.

Decisions are made for a reason, now you have to stick with what you said.

Remind her that she chose Dora but if she doesn't want to be Dora now, she's welcome to go in her closet and create her own new costume from things she already owns :yay:

We just had to do that Saturday. Girl already had worn her costume to an earlier party and didn't want to wear it to Saturday's. Also her costume wasn't warm enough for Sat night. Into the closet she went - we keep all her costumes and accessories. She ended up with some sort of funky diva witch thing she created. She was pleased.

This is a test.

The child is holding up a hoop and has told you to jump thru it.
Do you...
A. Jump thru this hoop and think it's a one time deal
B. Just say no.

My 6 year old daughter did the same thing this year. She told he grandmother she wanted to be a black cat for Halloween. So my ex MIL sends the cat costume for my daughters B-day last month. Now she doesnt want to be a cat. I told her, I'm sorry honey but mommy doesnt have enough money to buy another costume. And told her to think about what she wanted to be next year but she will go as a cat. So she is going as a black cat.

Step 1) The child will be Dora on Hallowe'en.

Step 2) Note to self: Do not ask children about ANYTHING more than 2 days in advance.

I'd tell her that she doesn't have to be Dora if she has changed her mind but that you aren't buying another costume. If she wants to be creative and use something that is already at home then that can be what she wears if not, then she has no outfit and can't go collect candy ~ it's her choice.

:ohwell: I think the parent is a Dem :ohwell:

Oh, so the parent claimed there was never a Dora costume in the first place no matter how many times they said there was a Dora costume. Then they quickly gave another costume to prevent future outbursts which cost more goodies to prevent later. Finally, they claimed it all could have been prevented if the Republicans had just gone after Boots in the first place because Dora was no real threat. Yet, there was only precendence to go after Dora because everyone know she had been a slut and offering it up for years to the costume community after attempting to take Raggedy Ann's shelf for herself and it was only a matter of time before she tried the same with Barbie's spot. Damnit! We can't pull out of Dora!
