Great photos! They are truly once in a lifetime shots, and I am with the girls, I would have wanted to take one home with me. Much better than the snakes and less likely to bit!

B-U-T-FULL!!!
That is hallmark card material --what a fantastic moment it must have been! (envy!!!)

Thanks JM...really. I tell ya...living those moments out there, every second changes, never the same. To come across this...never heard of it happeneing before...if it wasn't my night to get the girls this week I'd have slept out there...without a doubt! I wanted to be camo'd and covered so I could film Mom coming to get them and shoot the interaction between the three, THAT would have been the kicker!
SIGH!

WOW!! I have had some encounters with young fawns but nothing near that. Every few years i have some growing up in my back yard and get to watch them grow and play.

Did you know that fawns have no scent (actually, the have very little scent since it's impossible to have no scent at all)for the first week or so after being born? No scent and the spots which acts as camo are why the fawns sit tight. They aren't big or strong enough to fight or out run preditors so their defense is to be still, be invisible and watch them walk by. The reason mommy dear leaves them during the day is so her scent doesn't attract the preditors to the area. Mommy doesn't go far and is usually in hearing distance and will come if the fawns call for her. She also comes in a couple times a day to feed and then slips back away. You didn't see her but she might have been watching you.

Mike, i hope you have a good idea for the "doubles" theme! I wanted to use it myself but most fawns are born late may or early june around here. I have been watching every field checking but haven't seen anything.

Thanks!!
I wondered about the scent...they had absolutely zero scent, none at all! Bears, Fox, Coyotes, yadayada you can smell them from a looong way off. I had these on my lap and my dog didn't even notice when I got home.
It was cool how they got up tried playing and crashed back on my lap. I wish I had a video camera, the one on my phone suks! They blend incredibly, I was looking for copperheads, which stand out and almost stepped on the deer. I took a couple of them together, saving those :) It was like being at a petting zoo but not a soul in site. Anyone want to get rid of a video camera?

Beautiful pictures, Twilight!!

About mowers and fawns...:frown: I saw quite a few get run over by the hay mower. We also had a newborn calf get out into the hayfield...and it got run over by the mower as well. They guy mowing didn't even notice. It was not a pretty sight, and I had to clean it up. :ohwell:

We did get to see a few live fawns....we drove right by one and it screamed and jumped up. It scared the bejeesus out of us! I got to touch it and make sure it was ok. They're so incredibly delicate and graceful, compared to a lamb or kid. Very cute.
