Ok, ok...y'all win!! I give up!! You're right!! I'm gonna email W and ask him to leave the families on the roof, the balconies, the ones wading through the water and ask him to focus on dogs, cats, & birds!! :peace:

I have joined your ranks!! Screw those dummies! They should'a evacuated when they were told!! Lets all get together & save as many animals we can!! I'll bring my gun and if any refugees get in the way, I'll shoot em!! :diva: :patriot: :patriot: :patriot: :thewave:  :dude:

 I have done something!! People dying everyday and you dolts wanna save animals!! :bonk: :spank: :burning: :dork: :nono: :shortbus:

How do you know these people haven't already done more than you have and now want to help the pets also? I'm not saying you haven't, I'm just pointing out you don't know how much they have done either.

If you're here just arguing you obviously have spare time to do more while these people are going to be doing something active to help.

If I had my choice of saving an animal and saving you, the animal would win every time, and by your demise, humanity would win too.

Thank you for those who have offered words of support there. It amazes me that at a time like this some can turn volunteer work into a controversial topic. The St. Mary's Animal Welfare League is an all volunteer group whose main focus is on rescuing animals, hence the title ANIMAL Welfare League and our reason for focusing on the ANIMALS.

We will be going this weekend and taking two van loads of supplies, both animal and human to the shelters. We will also return with two van loads of animals. For those on here who are interested in focusing on the human side of the rescue, you may consider doing the same. They are looking for homes to house some of the misplaced families. You may consider joining efforts with them and bringing a van load of humans back to care for.

Thanks again to all of you who offered words of support. We are still searching for more volunteers to help foster and care for the animals.

I just checked with a buddy of mine and between the two of us we have freezer space for a cow and a couple of pigs.

Seriously, it's great what you guys are doing for the forgotten ones (animals). I would only hope that if you do see a person in distress that you offer them aide too. My aide for the people at this time is and will be strictly financial. Though I might be talked into making space for another canine. I'll have to check with the wife and Taz first.

Another thing I would like to add is that these people have pretty much lost everything. In many cases they were forced to leave behind their pets which are family members. Sometimes families are given toys to help give the children some emotional relief. I think a lot of families would be emotionally relieved if they knew someone was out there trying to rescue pets.

One last time I will try to explain my position. My first posts were posted with emotion and could have been written a little better.

Here we are 1 week after the initial hit and there are still 1000 people missing or needing rescue in N.O. alone. There are babies dying daily.

My point was the threads were very untimely. They could have waited until all human life was rescued and safe. I would have then chimed in on your side of saving animals.

Only one person in this thread mentioned saving an animal over a human and that was most likely a tongue-in-cheek response. I merely posted my thread about birds and responded to this one because I have seen umerous requests from people who have lost everything and are begging for people to rescue their pets. For some people, that is all they have left.

I also had a karma message and a pm or two asking to what animal organizations people could donate.

They also have hungry and sick animals roaming the streets, which cannot be good for the humans.

People help in the areas of their interest or expertise. Doctors, nurses, firemen, etc. are helping the people. Vets, people who specialize in animal rescue, etc. are helping the animals. There are many facets of this tragedy which need addressing and I applaud anybody who helps in any way that they can.

I definitely see Baja's point, even though I had to sit him out for his language disability.

My take is that anyone worth a crap probably got out of there when they were supposed to, and took their pets with them. I know that my aunt's family took their various animal friends with them, including the worthless hamster.

BUT there are so many homeless animals right now, why compound the problem by adding refugee animals to the mix? So now you've got an additional x-number of stray cats and dogs, some of whom will be sick and require extra care, that you "need" to find homes for. It just doesn't make sense from a purely practical POV.
