This from Fox News commentary:

During an interview, Kelly Ripa was talking about her son asking her why she has to work all the time. She told him, "I have to work so I can buy you toys," and the son replied, "I will give up all my toys if you'll stay home with me."

Think about that. Certainly Kelly and hubby have enough money to live on if she never works another day in her life. And here is her child saying he wants her to spend more time with him. Yet she fluffs him off to run off and tape a show.

This is why celebrity kids end up in rehab or committing suicide.

It was probably a made up story to endear her to the viewing audience so they would go "Awwwwwwwwwwwww". She probably hasn't seen the kid since she birthed him. Isn't she doing some other show in addition to that hugfest in the morning?

Of course she did, but talk about a disconnect!

"Mommy, will you play with me?"
"Sorry, Whats-Your-Face - must run off to tape my 16 TV shows. Mommy is a STAR :diva: "

What's the difference between her and hubby working vice you and your hubby working? Both couples work to provide for their family. Obviously, you're right and she doesn't have to work, but income shouldn't matter. If she enjoys working, she shouldn't quit.

I don't have at least 3 jobs, with publicity appearances and all that goes with entertainment promotion.

Well, when my son was 5 and said that to me... at least I was able to also throw "medical insurance" and "the roof over your head" at him. I feel much better about that now...:bubble:

 you're such a bad mommy

I think everyone that has kids should quit doing everything they like (work, hobbies, date nights) so they can spend every single waking second with their offspring.

I'm just asking why she should sacrifice and make one decision?

I think it is all about being self centered. IF you had a bazzilion dollars and 2 or 3 kids and they were telling/begging you they want you more than 2 hours a day 4 times a week but you refused because "You enjoy what you do and don't want to give it up" I think that qualifies you as a selfish pig who should not have squirted out kids that don't fit into your schedule/plan.

So why does mom choose to spend hours and hours away from her kids to do the LIVE show and her other show and appearances and all the other celeb stuff?

Does she need the cash? No, I doubt it.

Does her working impact anything else? Well evidently if the kid wants to give up all his toys to have her home.

What is the ONLY thing that would be impacted if she quit tomorrow?

:tap: :tap:

HER fame and the adoration of HER fans.

She chooses to keep HER warm and fuzzy instead of sucking it up and giving her kids the warm and fuzzy.

No... they'll have to live with us until they are 28 and engaged because the don't wake up at 21 knowing how to function in society without Mommy prepping the road ahead and then coming along cleaning up after them...:ohwell:

What about the normal folks making a 6-figure salary who choose to go to work, as well? Are they selfish, too, if only one parent has to work to provide? I don't see it that way. Of course I'd love to be able to stay home w/my daughter, but I also love being able to take her to the movies, treat her to an ice cream, let her pick out a new video game, etc. I could stay home and my b/f could easily provide for us all, however; I wouldn't want to. That, in your terms, makes me selfish.

Suppose for a second that it wasn't her job that kept her from her kids, it was ohhhhhh lets say Bingo.

If a rich chic who didn't need to work was dropping her kids off at a sitter and spending 18 hours a day playing BINGO, seeing her kids maybe an hour a day what would you say?

Once you reach a point of wealth a isn't a "job" not much more than a hobby to occupy your time?

You can't compare Bingo to a job. Not even close. :spank:

Sure you can, if I have $20 million dollars in the bank but I still keep my barber shop open it is not a "job" it is a hobby, a diversion, not required to sustain life or a standard of living.

Okay, then! What about half the people who pick up their kid(s) then drive straight home to get on the computer for the rest of the evening? :tap:

Short answer? If they are both working so many hours that their kids call the nanny mommy and the nanny calls the office to make an appointment for the kids to see their parents, just to drive a BMW and have a house bigger than their friends, yes.

Your financial situation and that of Kelly Rippa is not even comparable, nor are your jobs. After your 8 at the job you still have plenty left over. If you were working 70 a week so you could buy a BMW to 1 up Pixie at the expense of your kid, I would answer again, yes.
