Director Ridley Scott BOOTS Kevin Spacey From Film, Will Reshoot Scenes With Christopher Plummer
Spacey had nearly finished filming scenes as J. Paul Getty in biopic, "All The Money In The World."
In what is being described as the "last nail" in Kevin Spacey's coffin, star director Ridley Scott has booted the A-list actor from his J. Paul Getty biopic, All The Money In The World, and replaced him with veteran actor Christopher Plummer. Scott and Plummer will now re-shoot all of Spacey's scenes.
Scott made the decision after Spacey became mired in a series of sexual assault and sexual harassment allegations, many of which involve minors. Fearing that Spacey's name could cast a pall over the film, already rumored to be in Oscar contention, Scott simply cancelled Spacey's performance and hired Plummer.
Deadline, which first reported the change, says Scott made the swap with the blessing and full knowledge of the film's producers Dan Friedkin and Bradley Thomas, Spacey's co-stars Mark Wahlberg and Michelle Williams, and Sony Pictures entertainment.
The decision is even more dramatic than it sounds at first blush. Filming on All The Money In The World, which tells the story of why reclusive billionaire J. Paul Getty refused to pay ransom to his grandson's kidnappers, was complete. In fact, the film had already been given a release date, and was slated to premiere in the coveted final night slot at the AFI film festival.
