I have tried posting this in the health section, but I'm not sure if anyone has seen it. If any of you know of any girls with scoliosis (curvature of the spine), there is a Southern Maryland (and Central Maryland) support group that would love to meet them. If anyone has any questions, please contact me, redbear101282@yahoo.com, our Southern Maryland leader, Sara, at curvygirlsofsm@gmail.com, or our Southern Maryland co-leader Anna at kcastaats@aol.com or visit our website at Curvy Girls Homepage

right now we only have 4 girls that have scoliosis but am sure that there are more that have scoliosis that are not aware that there is a support group. we are also making plans to attend a convention in NY in the summer of next year where we will meet more girls from around the world with scoliosis.

yes, girls are more suseptical to having scoliosis, and there are some causes. some can be genetics (which is what mine was), when you are born, and also can be cause for no reason (idiopathic scoliosis). if you need more information, you can visit our website.

There are 8 girls/women in my family with it, including myself. My cousin's was so severe, she had to have surgery and now has 2 rods in her back running parallel to her spine [x-ray looks like railroad tracks]. Another cousin had headaches from it. This was years ago and we are all grown now. Mine is not as severe, my left leg is slightly longer than my right, but no other significant problems, other than my posture. It actually hurts to keep my shoulders back and straight like a normal person without Scoliosis would do.

I remember in middle school when they did the quick spine check for it, and I was the only one who came out with the paper containing info and being so embarrased! Turns out it is pretty common!

I think it's great you all are doing this!

I am on the County Health Advisory Board. I will mention it at the next meeting. Hopefully I can be helpful.
