" REEDSBURG, Wis. - An elementary-school event in which kids were encouraged to dress as members of the opposite gender drew the ire of a Christian radio group, whose angry broadcast prompted outraged calls to the district office.

Students at Pineview Elementary in Reedsburg had been dressing in costume all last week as part of an annual school tradition called Wacky Week. On Friday, students were encouraged to dress either as senior citizens or as members of the opposite sex."

Seems like a dopey tradition though. What do kids learn by dressing like that?
Again, why does anyone give an eff?

They teach cirriculum and people biatch and piss about it. They try to do something unconventional to have a little fun, people piss and moan about it.

No matter what, the schools just can't win because somebody's going to piss and moan about something.

We used to do that during "spirit week" toward the end of the year. Some days were opposite days, you could wear your shoes on the wrong feet, or dress as the opposite sex, etc. Schools have different traditions, I don't see anything wrong with it if it's so the kids can have fun.

I don't either. I just think it's dumb. If they'd done it at my school, I would have ignored it. Come to think of it, they probably did - and I did ignore it.

#1, we had Spirit Week when I was in school, which sounds like pretty much the same thing as Wacky Week. Nobody died.

#2, no matter what anyone does, someone else will have a fit about it. So why is this news? Oh, wait, I know - because it's bashing Christians, the new national sport.

I find it fascinating that people pooh pooh Muslim terrorists and excuse them as "the minority" and go to great lengths to remind everyone that not all Muslims are terrorists. Then these same people turn around and paint all Christians with the same brush when a small group of them merely gets offended by something silly.

In short, wake me up when these Christians threaten to kill those who offend them, or actually start lopping off heads.

Kids, have fun? :jameo:

How dare you suggest such a thing as allowing kids to have fun. :jameo:

All we're supposed to do is strap kids to a chair and make them sit and take notes and do paperwork for 6 hours. Have fun? That's immoral. Kids needs to be kids, right? That's why we strap them down, shove a stick up their ass and turn them into "young adults" by making them eat silently in the Cafeteria and making them do math problems all day. Kids can't be allowed to have fun, and if they do, diagnose them with ADHD or something so we can medicate the crap out of them at 6 years-old and turn them into ####in' zombies. :duh:

Everytime someone comes up with a way for kids to have fun, the elitists and the ####in' hypocrits come out and suggest otherwise.

I don't understand why these elitists (and I'm not putting all Christians in that crowd, just these slim few) kirk out everytime a school does this sort of thing.

If kids aren't having fun and enjoying school early on, wth makes you think you're going to get them enthusiastic about education later on in life. I've been a strong advocate of reforming education.

Until some administrator, CEO, Governor or official grows the stones to tell a few kirk artists to "STFU" it will just continue.

When 2 or 3 kooks can bring an organization to their knees you can expect more of it.

I'd love to see that myself. If I was an Administrator, gov. official or Borad Member, I would tell them to STFU. :jet:

Who gives a crap? Why is this worth even discussing?
It's not, but I bet the school changes it's policy and makes those kids just sit in a chair and write more math problems out with their cramped hand.

This is a friggin elementary school. WTF do these people want? More of the same? More kids who will just hate school, want to drop out and not be interested in pursuing a higher education?

The system is effed. We have to get kids excited about school. The only way to do that is to offer up some more recreational activities and less of the same.

Oh yeah, and sending kids home with 5 hours worth of homework doesn't help either.

2? Eff that. In Middle School, I was doing 4 pages and 80 math problems and book reviews and science take-home quizzes and english essays and 2 chapters a night of social studies reading and paperwork. That was more like 4 or 5 hours a night. And that was in 6th and 7th grade.

You have to have big enough stones to see yourself eviscerated on the local NBC station for not being "in tune with the wishes of the community" which is code speak for not kissing the ass of a couple freaks who have issue with something that tens of thousands of others don't care about.

When i went to middle school was used a "slate" because pencils were not invented yet and paper was too expensive.

I've said it before, sports reporter ... not leftist communist wingnut NBC reporter.

And most motorsports reporters and insiders happen to be very conservative.
