My husband and I are about to give up on our kitchen. We've been trying to find a decent contractor to redo our kitchen for a while, with no luck. The four who have actually called us back are trying to charge us 30-40k to remodel our kitchen. We have a humble, single level, 3/2 ranch style house. Not big or fancy; just right for us. Putting a 40k kitchen in it is gross overkill.

All we want is someone to do the measuring/installation of cabinetry and countertops while we will handle the appliances, and tile the floor ourselves. (We just don't have the time for cabinets. Floors are easy and something we know how to do.) Folks, seriously, does that warrant a 40k price tag? We weren't planning on spending more than 15k and that was pushing it. :frown:

Do you have any recommendations?

We just had our kitchen cabinets/ countertop done. We did a lot of pricing. We made sure to have each place quote cabinets and countertop separately. We ended up getting our cabinets from Cord's in Mechanicsville. We got real maple doors with arches for about 7500. We ended up going with Stuarts for the countertop. We got silestone and with about 55 square feet it was a little under 4200. We originally got estimates from Lowes, Home Depot, Beautiful Kitchens, Cord's, Stuart's, and Cabinet Corner in Waldorf. We have a small kitchen so it was important for us to get a design that worked best for us.

And also, the one seam in the 4th picture was the only seam we had and you can barely see it. The installers did a great job.

Keep in mind these pictures were taken during contruction. They are only to show the cabinets and counter.............

Nice!

Hey thanks! We have a silestone sample that we've decided on. That is great info! I appreciate it.

Harleyrider, looks like great work there. Sent you a pm.

Here are some pics of a bathroom I am remodeling.
New drywall, sub-floor, shower, toilet and ceramic tile.
Home owner at first said to use the old vanity but now they want a new one plus mirror and a new window inside the bathroom.
I'm just waiting on the shower doors, vanity and mirror to arrive from my supplier.

When I had my house built about 6 years ago, Cord's did the cabinets and a most excellent job they did. I had estimates done by most the ones you listed and Cord's came in UNDER the rest. In fact, your cabinets look a lot like mine except mine are hickory. I couldn't be more pleased with them. :yay:

Dude! Where did you find the tile for that bathroom? I've been looking for that exact design, and can't find it anywhere. I want to tile my shower, and lose the tub... make a walk-in shower with a swing-open glass door. Can you do something like that?

I washed dishes in the bathroom sink. Just do it. Tear out is the best part!!!

i have a cabin that looks just like yours inside. have you done any roof work yet?

I was startled to find that the ceiling is the only structual element to the roof other than the beams. no plywood at all. the shingles are nailed down directly over ridgid foam insulation......

Speaking for HarleyRider:

The flooring is actually vinyl that I spaced 1/4 inch apart and filled with grout to give a ceramic look. When you walk on it, it feels like a ceramic floor. I got it from a supplier out of Waldorf. The bathroom in the pic is about 5 x 5 and if I remember correctly the flooring was about $250.00.

What you describe certainly sounds possible. Just give me a call when you guys are ready and I'll come out and take a look.

That's the way mine was till last spring. I had a layer of plywood added, over the foam, then 50 year shingles installed. Super quiet, and the dayum limbs don't come through the shingles anymore during windstorms.

I recommend Beautiful Kitchens. They have excellent customer service and have a banner out front of their showroom that states they "guarantee lowest price"

Love the style of the cabinets. I also love the countertops. How did they compare in price to the other options? Did you have to seal them? What's the maintenance like?
