kitchen countertop recommendation

I need recommendations about a fabricator or dealer for new kitchen countertops. Someone who has lots of samples, can install well. I am thinking of solid surface or quartz. Who do you recommend in Charles or St. Marys county? Thank you for taking the time to respond.

I used Cord's Cabinetry, in Charlotte Hall, when I built my house about 10 years ago. I was very happy with their products and service. Can't speak to their service in recent years.

There are two kitchen places in St. Mary's that I know of and I have not heard anything bad about either (lots of good stuff though). The first one is in Loveville across from Bruski's Tavern and the other is in Hollywood near the Thomas Somerville Plumbing Supply store.

Actually there is another one too - in Charlotte Hall. Cord's Cabinetry is the name I think - by the Farmer's Market. Heard good stuff about them too.

Solid Rock in LaPlata (301) 375-8300. They actually supply most of the granite tops in SOMD as well as build them for the local shops (I think this includes Cords)

We got granite countertops from them. They were great from start to finish.

When you visit the store in LaPlata you can pick the actual granite slab used for your countertop.

Had to have cabinets and countertops redone at the end of last year. We got many quptes from many different places including lowes, home depot, beautiful kitchens, cords, and corner cabinets. We made sure to have all of them quote the cabinets and countertops sepretely for price comparison reasons. We ended up selecting Silestone and actually got it from Stuart's Kitchens in Waldorf. The cabinets ended up coming from Cord's. Stuarts was great despite knowing that we had got the cabinets elsewhere and it looks dreat. Let me know if you want me to send you pics.

I just had mine done not too long age....We used Dean Lumber Supply....They had a really good selection of materials...Ask for Robby Tennyson...I am sure Cords would do a good job for you too....There are lots of places...Get a price from a number of them and look for that warm fuzzy feeling..

I would love to see pictures too. We're in the planning stages of getting new counter tops.

Bad Experience - Corian and Lowes

We have Corian Counters and I don't like them. They scratch very easily and the scratches show in bright sunlight. I do like the seamless sink but not with the scratches.

Whoever Lowes had install the countertops, sections of the countertop did not match. One section was slightly darker (but very noticeable) than an adjoining section. On the positive side, they did re-do the whole countertop but it was an inconvenience.

Next time, I'd go with granite or the cheaper version --- Silestone Quartz.

I have read that the good thing about Corian is that if it does scratch that they can be removed when the countertop is wet with either an abrasive pad (like you would use on pots and pans) or very fine grit sandpaper.

It's really better to buff the scratches out with a buffer and a compound...You can not do that to a Granite top...Granite is very pourous also..

We used Cord's Cabinetry in Charlotte Hall. I'd recommend them. Ask for a tiny little woman named Karen. :yay:

We did Corian but next time I will likely do Granite. I just like the look better.

Another vote for Cord's Cabinetry. They put in the countertops in my kitchen and the cabinets in my kitchen and bathrooms. Nothing but great things to say about their quality and workmanship. :yay:

Tried That

Trying to buff out the scratches is a lot of work with the pads and it never turns out right. Fact is, if the sun is shining, you see the scratches. If it's not, ya don't. I don't understand how it scratches so easily when all we do is set plates on it or something. Not a big deal.

Don't know a thing about granite but it looks nice. Something about sealing it to deal with the pourous thing and possible trapping of bacteria.
