Wow how much does Diesel weigh? He's a biggun!

22 pounds. And he doesn't each much. One 15 lbs bag of Evo lasts my 4 cats over a month. We got him when he was 6 mths old and he weighed almost 10 lbs. He's a big boy.

One of our rescues was 18 lbs, He weighs less now as he was diagnosed as diabetic. I think it's cool the cat likes the lizards.

All my cats are cool with the lizards except for my Main Coon, Spike. I don't trust him because he is entirely too curious about them. I don't worry about the big guys because they can defend themselves very well, but my adolescences aren’t big enough to be threatening yet.

Diesel likes to love on everything, including my snake. He is “special.” When Sasha is out all I can think of when Diesel comes running to see her is, “You dummy, don’t you know she can kill you if she wanted too?”

Fritz on the other hand KNOWS what Sasha is and stays away from her. But Fritz is the only cat that is allowed to go outside. His eyes become huge saucers when he sees her. It’s amusing when we take Sasha out, Fritz sees her, and then one of the family will walk up behind Fritz and make a noise, that cat goes flying into the air, back flips and hauls ass the other direction.:killingme

I am not a strong person, so I would limit MY time around a good-sized constrictor, believe me ... I totally understand why the cat gets jumpy LOL

Sasha is a Ball Python. She isn't very big, a little over four feet, and 6 inches in diameter. You wouldn't have to be strong to handle her, just don't put her around your neck. It took me about a year to teach her not to wrap around my neck & constrict. Now she is perfectly content to remain draped across my shoulders or wrap around my bun.

How on earth do you TEACH THAT?

When a snake wraps around your neck, slide your finger between the snake and your neck and wiggle them until the snake loosens up. Then unwind the snake and place it where you want it. Repeat...a lot.

It's one of the cooler things my bio-mother taught me growing up.

However, it does not work with all snakes and I do NOT advise anyone to attempt it. The safest rule of thumb is to NEVER allow one to wrap around your neck. It only takes a few seconds to be strangled and snakes are pure muscle.

I have been handling snakes for over 30 yrs and I know my own limitations.

I have read stories about people who have been killed by their own snakes. What a horrible way to go.

Yep. And it could have been prevented had they kept in mind a snake is a dangerous animal and you must always be cautious and aware at all times.

Some herpers are incredibly stupid and think that their snake “loves them” and “protects” them. I have met one that allowed full grown 14 feet long Burmese Pythons to sleep with them! That lady was effing nuts! People like that give the rest of us a bad name.

My best friend of 15 yrs is too. But she doesn't want to be so I work with her to get over her fear. She did great last summer when she came to visit me for two weeks. She actually held & petted the middle part of Sasha!

I kept Sasha's head and tail behind my back (wrapped her around me like a belt) so Sues would feel more secure. I was very impressed with her and proud of her. She even participated during feeding time. Those are HUGE leaps for her.
