Kwanzaa

At dinner last night, my 8 YO told me they learned about Kwanzaa at school. I don't have a problem with that because they should be exposed to unbiased facts. I believe that they should learn about all cultures.

So I asked her questions about what she had learned.

She didn't learn that it was made up by a black separatist in the 60's. She didn't learn that is not based on any African holiday.

She also didn't learn about Hannukah or Christmas at school. Why is it okay to promote a made up holiday, but we must pretend that faith based holidays do not exist?

I can sort of remember learning about it in school. I would fight till no end on the subject, I said I don't want to learn about this crap. Then black history month came, had to do a report on someone from a list of people..... I picked a name and there was a white person with the same name:lmao: My teacher gave me an F I asked why the report is on the person named on the list:lmao: My teachers never liked me very much

Write a letter to the school board if you want something to change. Convince your friends to write letters also.

My little one came home with tons of colored pages about Hanukkah, Kwanza and Christmas. :yay: I'm glad they are allowing them to learn about all the different celebrations.

That's kinda racist.. I think they'd prefer "African American" pages....

My 13 year old came home a couple weeks ago and wanted to know why she learns about Hanakah in school all the time, but never about Christmas.

I didn't know what to tell her.

They should learn more about Christmas but I like the fact that they learn a little about others also. They started at son's school yesterday with Christmas.
