They shouldn't learn about Kwanzza at all, it is BS and made up like someone else said.

Maybe they should learn about Festivus too!!

When I was in 2nd grade, I played Mary in the school play at Christmas time. We had shepherds, wise men, the whole deal.

A couple of years later, they did a play with Santa going all over the world delivering gifts to children in different cultures. Filling wooden shoes in Holland, that sort of thing. He made a stop over in Israel and left some Hanukkah gifts, when no one was looking. He also left some gifts to be found on 12th night...I can't remember which country that was, I know a couple of cultures put the gift giving then, but they don't teach that in school anymore either.

My kids have learned about all 3 in school. They go over it every year. Just yesterday I was suppose to go to school and help them cook some latkes.

At dinner last night, my 8 YO told me they learned about Kwanzaa at school. I don't have a problem with that because they should be exposed to unbiased facts. I believe that they should learn about all cultures.

So I asked her questions about what she had learned.

She didn't learn that it was made up by a black separatist in the 60's. She didn't learn that is not based on any African holiday.

She also didn't learn about Hannukah or Christmas at school. Why is it okay to promote a made up holiday, but we must pretend that faith based holidays do not exist?

Did they also learn that 22,500 MARYLANDERS fought for the Confederacy? That Lincoln put the state under martial law, and the present State Police headquarters in Pikesville, was a home for the MD. Confederate veterans of the War between the States. History is lost in history. :smack: MD. History.

Just a few questions I ask at the risk of getting crucified

1. Is this at all schools or just your kids?
2. Is it a part of the school curriculum or just this teacher?
3. What race is your childs teacher and if not what possessed her out of the blue to teach about Kwanzaa,if she indeed did that?

These questions should be asked and answered at the Principals office.

Well this is my daughters first year in school and her school talks about all three... Christmas, Kwanzaa, Hanukkah........ I say good for them. I was pleasantly surprised when she came home talking about Hanukkah and Kwanzaa (we don't celebrate either of those holidays). All children should learn about other cultures... that way we can be a little more tolerant to the beliefs of others..... and stop being so close minded.

One day a couple of years ago, I watched a bunch of Christmas episodes of shows..Blue's Clues is the worst for being PC and covering all the holidays or avoiding mention of any holiday...even their Valentine's show is called, "Happy Love Day" But most of them mention Kwanzaa and Hanukkah as well as Christmas.

The one glaring exception...Bill Cosby's "Little Bill" It's all about Christmas and Santa and going the church on Christmas Eve. Not a Kwanzaa candle or Kente cloth in the whole show...Speaking of Kente cloth...did you know that if all those folks who where what many call "traditional African clothing" were to actually wear it to Africa, at best they'd get laughed at, at worse they might get arrested or attacked because the garb is reserved for royalty. It would be the equivalent of me walking around in a tiara and ermine trimmed robes.
