I don’t even know if it’s a landscaping company that I’m going to need. I need some recommendations for a decent company to come out and fix some big ass ruts left in my yard from a stuck vehicle. (including re-leveling and re-seeding). Someone willingto work with insurance companies for payment. I don’t even know where to start. HELP! Im in the Lexington Park area. Thanks!

Similar to Auto, your insurance company (or better yet the drivers insurance company) should send out a claims adjuster to determine how much it would cost to fix the damage.

If his insurance company doesn't cover it, or he's not insured, threaten the minor's parents with a lawsuit to cover damages. If you bring it up nicely to the parents first, they may offer to cover the damages without getting insurance involved.

If all else fails I'd gladly bring the tractor and tiller over to level it out for you.

He was from Suitland, 17 years old, and out at 3am - I doubt his parents would do anything. I'm going to talk to my insurance company and give them the case # and his info tomorrow - I guess just let them handle it all? I do know who I want to fix my driveway , will I have a choice on who does the work or do I have to go with who his insurance will pay for? Any clue?

If you're the victim his unsurance really shouldn't have a say. He should have property liability insurance.. so talk to them and tell the landscaper the insurance information. I'm sure the landscaper that wants the business will figure it out.

Not really sure.. Personally I'd go for his auto insurance..

But in your case you're mixing homeowners (yours) and auto (his) insurance.

You go through your insurance company in the end, they are going to go after his, but hit you for the claim. It probably won't hurt you as far as premiums, but will show up as a claim against your insurance. Too many claims and your insurance company may drop you.

BUT phone calls and advice are free.. Call your insurance, give them the scenario, and they'll advise you as to what your options are, and what the benefits to each are.

Devil's Advocate
I'd say, grab a shovel and fill it in yourself.

I have a friend who just lost her car insurance after making 2 claims in one year. Before those two claims she'd been driving for 25 years and never been in an accident. The worst part is, she wasn't even driving the vehicle at the time of the second accident. Some idiot hit it in a parking lot.

Save the insurance for the serious stuff. It's ridiculous how easy it is for them to drop you these days.

"Oh, you actually used your insurance? You mean we had to actually pay you instead of collecting money for years while providing no tangible service to you? I'm sorry Mr. Smith, but we're going to have to drop you."

Idiots.

Had that happen to me. The kids insurance company is responsible. I called Wentworth Nursery and got an estimate for repairs(called them to make sure it would be high), then sent that to the kids insurance company. They sent me a check and I fixed it myself. Net profit 300 dollars. And the kid learned a lesson.

oh no - I'm using the kids insurance who effed up my yard. Not mine. I don't care how many claims he has. I'm not fixing his eff up.

It should be that easy. Who is his insurance company? If it's GEICO or Travelers (I've worked for both, dealing with auto claims), they may send out a damage adjuster out to inspect and estimate the damages. Or they may ask you to just send them a few pics along with an estimate or 2 from local landscape companies, rather than sending someone out. Either way like you said, it'll be handled through his auto insurance (glad you have a police report to prove it was him). If I were you, I wouldn't call your homeowners company at all.

Its liberty mutual....I'll go ahead and call them in a few and get the ball rolling. Good times.

Good luck! Let us know how it goes.

called them and was told that they have to get in touch with him for him to aknowledge that this incident did happen. I brought up that the case# I have from the police should be proof enough. She said that sometimes its just easier to get aknowledgement from the person instead of waiting on the police report - which I get. But when she tried to call him; all of a sudden his phone "isn't accepting calls right now". So she'll have to send him a letter and if she doesn't get a response from that a certified letter. They give them up to 30 days to respond. BS. I'm not waiting a month to fix my yard and my driveway that is starting to collapse.

That's what I was afraid of, that they wouldn't be able to contact him which would delay things. If he's only 17, he may be on his parent's policy. If the parents are the registered owner of the car, the policy should be in their name. If that's the case, LM should be contacting his parents also. I wonder if LM tried all the contact numbers on the policy or tried to look up alternate numbers that may not be listed on the policy? The good news, though, is that they didn't give you any indication that the policy is canceled. Then it would really be a pita!

I'm with you though, no way I'd want to look at that crap for possibly a month. If they can't reach him soon, you may want to ask what they advise you to do? Are they going to send out an adjuster?

Its his own policy and the vehicle is in his name. She did look up a past claim and said the number is the same. She sent out a letter already and will continue trying to call his phone all day in case its shut off because he's in school or what have you.

They want me to get the quotes and send them to them. I said if I sent the quotes now and this takes over 30 days will I have an option to get new quotes for updated costs - she asked why I would think after 30 days I'd need new quotes and that no I wouldn't be able to. I explained that the side of my driveway is partialy collapsed and that I was sure after 30 days it would be far worse. She understood and told me that she'll call me once she gets ahold of him and I can get my quotes at that time which I agreed with.

so now we just sit and wait I guess.

I hope this jackass answers his phone after school, guess it's possible it was off because he was in school but what teenager doesn't have vm set up? To be very honest, call LM everyday. Annoy the hell outta them to make sure they keep trying to get in touch with this kid. They have so many claims to deal with that they may not call the guy every day.

Ask what you can do to expedite things, not that it should be up to you but sometimes it helps move things along when the insured isn't cooperating. Take pictures of the damages with the date stamp on them. I'm not sure if you can pick up a copy of the police report and get it to them faster than they can get it when they order it or if they would even pay you based on the police report if he won't call them? Wouldn't it be nice if people would just call their damn insurance company when they screw up?
