Laptop Problem

Hello All,

I have a Dell Laptop that I bought for myself in 2002 when I was in college to do my homework and attended online classes. However, ever since I graduated from college, my husband decided that he wanted my laptop to play his computer games "WoW" (World of Witchcraft) and some of other games installed because his computer tower crashed (still broken). It has been working really well until all the games been installed. Now, we are seeing Death Blue Screen. We can't go any further because the Death Blue Screen won't go away.

I was thinking we need to wipe clean and start fresh. How do I wipe clean the laptop and be able to use it again? I would love to be able to use my laptop again since I am a Pampered Chef consultant and could use this to do my business on.

Good news, my husband have his own laptop (brand new). I just need to fix my poor Dell laptop computer.

Thanks in advance for those who decided to help me! :buddies:

did he perhaps update the video drivers, when attempting to install / play WoW ....

also i have seen windows automatic updates, pull down an older video driver, only to see the machine give the BSoD after 3 - 5 min of running ..... when updating video drivers ATI and nVidia it is always best to go to the chipset maker <ATI, nVidia> for the latest and greatest, or manufacturer which will have updates but not necessarily the newest rev.

you might also get some canned air and blow out the vents on the Laptop

Foxhound had problems with his Laptop until he took it apart and removed all the fuzz and dog hair from his heat sink - laptop disassembly not recommended for novices

Video drivers are common BSOD failures. Can you boot in Safe Mode? If you can, chances are that a newly loaded driver is causing a problem. From Safe Mode, you can load a newer/more compatible driver.

What kind of degree does Pampered Chef require to become a consultant?

I'm wondering also if the laptop has the video card to support such games. That could also be the culprit. It is 5-6 yrs. old now. Might be time to either upgrade and get a newer machine that can handle the new higher graphics. Just a thought.

I remembered hearing him talking about wanting to put video card in the laptop to make the WoW to run faster. All I know is that every time my husband tries to update the computer to improve his computer games, the computer always crashes.

I got a brand new desktop computer given to me by DORS for my college and I told him that he is not allowed to touch my new computer at all and he haven't touch it with my knowledge. However, I think he did messed with it because he was telling me what a piece of crap my desktop computer is because he couldn't install a game on it due that it is very basic computer (no fancy toys for him to be able to play games on this computer). DORS gave it to me for college and job hunting use only. It wasn't meant for anyone to play video games on it. I am grateful that DORS gave me a basic computer because it is MINE and I don't have to worry about it crashing and begging to get my computer back when I need it for school, job hunting, checking emails, etc.

I can't do anything, not even in safe mode. Whatever my husband did, he killed it.

I am selling Pampered Chef to make extra income to pay the household bills until I could finally get a full time job with Federal Government. Plus Pampered Chef mail me new products for me to keep as long I stay active. :yahoo: I can really use the extra income and kitchen products to cook meals.

Jobs are very hard to get for disability people who wants to work. It is very hard to get a job around here.

I don't want to get new machine. I just want to get rid of whatever my husband did to it since I did not buy it for him to play games on it. I bought it for me to be able to do my homework and attended online classes when I was traveling (on vacation to visit family) and babysitting kids. It is easier to bring the laptop everywhere with you and when you do have a free time, you can just sit down and work when you needed to.

Look for the file in safe mode named PORN.EXE

Hey Dodgem! Long time no modulate huh?

To give the girl a bit more info... porn.exe is an old worm (pun intended) where it infects the computer and downloads malware... it 'effs up the computer and you have to clean it using McAffee or Norton... bottom line is it will not destroy anything, but it will definately piss windows off enough to run slow!

Happens with a lot of Peer to Peer software like Kazaa...

Pulled from McAffee...

Method of Infection

The worm copies itself around and into the folder defined by "Kazaa\localcontent" registry key and into "kazaabackupfiles" subdirectory. Some copies may have enticing names (like "porn.exe", "Matrix Screensaver 1.5.scr", "Smart Ripper v2.7.exe", etc.) so other people may download the worm through P2P file sharing program. Once the downloaded copy of the worm is executed the cycle repeats itself.
Some variants can scan subnets for systems already infected by sub7 or kuang2 to spread furhter.

If you are using P2P software (Kazaa, Gnotella, Bearshare, Morpheus, eDonkey, eMule, etc.) be very careful with downloaded executable files.

Please make sure that scanning of compressed files is enabled. Always scan downloaded files with the latest DATs in program heuristic mode.

Have you ever posted details here to see if anyone could help?

What's your degree in? From what school?

What's the disability?

There is still a requriement for the Gov to hire the disabled, maybe you're looking in the wrong places?

No, I never posted details here online....

Degree: Bacholer Science Degree in Management Studies from UMUC

Disability: Hearing Loss/Deaf since birth

I am not looking in wrong places. I know and met EEO staff at Pax River, and know almost all deaf employees that work at Pax River base. I also know quite few people that work for Government and most of them do not have hiring power.

For your information, I had four or five job interviews with Pax River in last five years, and didn't get any offers. I also applied for Internship program (Logistics, Finanical, and Contracting) and didn't get the job offer (yes, they did interviewed me). I attended all job fairs relating to Federal Government jobs and all of them said I have very impressive resume and stuff. I still don't know why they haven't call me for the job.

I know it is not me at all because I followed all the rules on how to land a job (dress professional, clean apperances, etc.)
