I have a laptop that is badly in need of repair! I live in lexington park and would like to find someone local that can fix it for me without charging me an arm and a leg. Does anyone know of a place or a person that I can take my computer to? TIA!

SMARTCO

They are good, cheap, local and a good cause. They're in the back of Millison Plaza off Great Mills Rd. / FDR Blvd. (back wall is shared with the Jump Yard if that helps w/ location).

What's wrong with it? You might be better off getting a new one.
If he gets a new one, I'll take the old one and give a tax write off receipt. I'm looking for laptops that can be loaned out to trainers working for me for Scouts.

The darn thing won't turn on. It tries to power up but just stops and dies. It probably doesn't help that I punched the stupid thing.

Check to make sure your memory boards are seated correctly (not the hard drive). I was checking some Dells at SMARTCO and they would act like that if they didn't have any RAM installed. Once we installed RAM, they would boot fine (no hard drives installed).

Agreed. Loose RAM is the main cause of laptop issues. the worst part is that Best Buy's so called Geek Squad never checks for it. They just tell you that your laptop is fried and they are ever so helpful in reccomending a new one to you.

If it is a Toshiba..... You are better off using it as a paper weight and getting a new one - not another Toshiba. Their warranty SUX!

Sometimes the power adapters go bad and do not charge battery or powerup the laptop. Happened to my dell XPS last year. Thing wouldnt boot and turned out to be just the power adapter.

To check for that, remove the battery and plug in the power supply. We had one like that at SMARTCO a couple weeks ago. With the battery removed it started up. With battery in, it wouldn't.
