Can anyone tell me that last day of school for high schoolers in St. Mary's? I look on the Schools' website and it says Friday, 6/17/05. Yet my son is swearing that is only for make up tests and the last day is Thursday, 6/16/05. Of course no one at the school is every available to answer my question via the telephone.

I don't know if your sons version is "the official" rule... but it is pretty much the rule of thumb...I say if he has everything done and in, let him stay home...:yay:

On the Great Mills homepage, on the calendar, it specifically says that Friday is for make up finals only.

Even if it wasn't, they don't do anything the last day anyway. Teachers hope most kids stay home, and they put the few to work that do come in. They have to count all the books, clean off the bulletin boards, etc.

The official last day for students is Friday, June 17, 2005. What they plan on doing that day is dependant on the school and teacher.

I would make an assumption that if you child did not attend that day, he would be marked absent, if they even bother taking attendence...

Thanks. It isn't that I don't believe him. But if he is supposed to be in school, regardless of what the the teacher's hope for or what they wind up doing he is going to school. If the school had said only those students who need to take makeup exams need attend on that day then I would let him stay home. But they haven't said that. Only that makeup exams will be given on that day and nothing about those who don't need to take them can stay home.

They can't say that it is only for make-up exams because technically, it IS a school day. The teachers and administration can't tell you not to come to school. But no one goes, even the kids that have make-up exams only go for the exam. My bus driver used to ask if anyone was going that day and if no one was, she didn't even bother making the run.

Let him stay home! I bet you make him go to school on planned skipped days also. Don't be so rigid that you may set him up to be made fun of and picked on. High school is hard enough for kids. JMO

SCHOOL SYSTEM END OF YEAR CALENDAR CHANGE -- Posted by zmthomas on Thursday, March 31 2005
The last day for students in St. Mary’s County Public Schools will be Friday, June 17, 2005, and the last day for teachers will be Monday, June 20, 2005. Four school days were lost this school year due to inclement weather conditions. This allows the school year to be shortened by one day since not all five inclement weather days were used.

June 14 will be a regular day of school with all full-day Kindergarten, AM and PM Prekindergarten, and AM and PM Kindergarten students attending school on a normal schedule. June 14 will be the last day of school for PM Prekindergarten and PM Kindergarten students.

June 15 will be an early dismissal day with full-day Kindergarten, AM Prekindergarten, and AM Kindergarten students attending school. PM Prekindergarten and PM Kindergarten sessions will not be held on June 15.

June 16 will be an early dismissal day with full-day Kindergarten, AM Prekindergarten, and AM Kindergarten students attending school. PM Prekindergarten and PM Kindergarten sessions will not be held on June 16. June 16 will be the last day of school for AM Prekindergarten and AM Kindergarten students.

June 17 will be an early dismissal day with full-day Kindergarten students attending. Half-day Prekindergarten and half-day Kindergarten students will not have school on June 17.
