Laundry Detergent

Yo Jabba, the blame may not belong to the detergent... it very well may be how you do your laundry...

Laundry Tricks of the Trade

The laundry mistake that everybody makes is that they wash their clothes for too long.

Crenshaw
What do you mean too long?

Boorstein
Well if you have something like grass stains or grease, yes, you need to wash your clothing for 10 or 15 minutes. But if you have light soil, 98% of it comes out in the first 2 minutes.

Crenshaw
So what do you want me to put that little dial on?

Boorstein
For light soil I'd say 6 or less and you'll be fine.

Crenshaw
What's wrong with just putting it on 15 every time?

Boorstein
Because your clothes will fade and they'll wear out faster.

Cold Water Tide, Downey softner, then add Bounce dryer sheets.

And if you need bleach use the clorox gel kind. Doesnt spill as easily.

Using dryer sheets actually puts a "film" over clothes. You'll clean your clothes better if you don't use them. :bubble:
I am a huge fan of Purex......it is a less expensive detergent, but seems to clean well, and get more stains out than Tide and the others......and it smells good (original scent).....and Downy simple pleasures water lily and jasmine....smells sooo good!! I am with Chasey on the dryer sheets....hate em....

Wow - good information. I always put it on the high time - 12 or so. Learn something new everyday! :huggy:

I generally buy what's on sale, but have noticed clothing not staying bright and new looking for as long as I think that it should. I think I'll swap to Tide/Cheer and try cutting the wash time down a bit. :yay:

I didn't realize how old Gain detergent is. My great grandmother, who would be 113 if she was still alive, swore by Gain. My grandmother was telling me that last week when I was complaining that the boys stains don't always come out of their clothes. :ohwell:

Gain with Bleach works very well.

I have changed the way I do laundry now too based on the info I learned when I first read that article a couple months ago... glad I could share...:huggy:

I seperate my clothes and my husbands clothes out and wash them on a low time setting. The boys, they need the max everytime.

I switched to Gain a few years ago. After a NASCAR race in NH they were giving away goodie bags with sample products. Being we were half blasted because of beer poisoning we were near the end of the line leaving and when we got back to the camper we each had about 10 bags a piece. I collected up all the bottles of Gain and took it home. Loved the smell and it worked.

I always use the short cycle on clothes. I shout the bad stains on Boy's stuff and use the long cycle on whites because most of the load is socks that are nasty from running around outside with no shoes on.
