Leaf Vacuum

I've got an insane amount of leaves and really bad landscaping that acts as a leaf trap around the base of the porch. I was thinking about getting myself one of those walk behind chipper shredder vacuum things with the vacuum hose, about the size of a lawn mower with a bigger bag for the debris. Seems like Cub Cadet, Sears and Troy-Bilt all make one. The only one I've seen people talk about on the internet is the Troy-Bilt one having issues and being junk. Does anyone have one of these and do they work or are they pretty much crap? Also they seem to have a limited production run each season, no one has one in their stores for you to look at. Any feedback?

Thanks!

My EX bought me one once. I ended up selling it. Was just another seldom used piece of gear I had to keep around. Now I just use a good leaf blower to blow them up into a pile then put them on a tarp and drag them over the hill.

If I feel like it I just ride over the yard with the riding lawnmower with the bagger attached

Well did it work or was it junk?

I'm using the rake/leaf blower combo now but the wind here wants to blow everything the wrong way, into the street and away from the woods.

It worked fine. I Just didn't have the room for it. I still ended up using a leaf blower to clean around the bushes and the hard to get to spots.

I got one from Sears a few years ago. Its the 4-in-1 model, so it will vacuum up the leaves and shred them in the process, so you can get more collected in fewer bags. The hose makes it easy to get the leaves out of the flowerbeds, from under the porch, and any other tight spaces. The chipper works for most smaller branches. There's also a blower attachment, so if you want to blow the leaves instead of sucking them up, you have that choice. The thing seems to run a long time on a tank of gas and is adjustable height wheels make it easy to vacuum over the grass or over the sidewalk/driveway. The B&S engine starts up on the first pull almost every time.

Now the downside. I had to replace the bag for mine. It gt a small tear in it and just got worse. The replacement bag was close to $200.

Overall, I have been very happy with mine and really couldn't do the job as effectively without it.

I have a Billy Goat Yard Vac.
Bought it from a co-worker when we first bought this house.
Worked great, but I decided to buy a blower and blow the leaves into the woods (less work).

It's yours if you want it (free).

It's an old one, with a 5hp Tecumseh motor.
Needs work. Last time I used it, it leaked a little gas fom the carb.

Comes with a new bag.

Interested?

If you don't want it, it's free to anybody else.

I had a Black and Decker blower with a vacuum attachment. It really worked well, 'cept for 2 things: When sucking up stuff, small twigs would instantly jam it, and the impeller that works great for blowing air could not handle the debris on vacuum and it got destroyed.

If you want a leaf vacuum, get one specifically for vacuuming, not dual-mode.
