Learners permit...

...this is the fourth and, hopefully, last time I do this.

The pure thrill :jameo: of sitting there as a passenger and feeling the car kinda unsure of itself as each one of the kids takes the reins for those first baby driving steps just never gets old. The edge of the road. The mailbox. The tree limb you didn't realize the car could actually reach. The semi coming at you who suddenly just doesn't look like he fits in his lane like when you're driving. The too fast, the too slow, the uneven acceleration and breaking. Ah, pure joy. Oh, and the curbs. And the creative parking jobs.

Next week I will know which is worse; being a passenger of a child with a learner's permit, my foot mashing my imaginary brake at all times or watching as they drive off - alone with a new driver's license. Terrifying either way I'm sure!

 That's how I feel when hubby is driving.

:yay: for surviving this long!

Tell your hubby to put his drink down and he'll likely improve his steering habits.

It's an acquired taste... But once you do acquire a taste for it, there are few things better than a nice neat single malt scotch.

...telling me that. At this rate, I'll aquire the taste about 2050.

...when they drive off alone, you've been through the terror and reached a comfort level. At that point, it's misty eye time. It's great! Trust me.

Now, when they come home later with someone elses mail stuck to the side...

Do what I did: call someone on your cellphone and yak during the ride. You'll never notice a thing and when the other parent says, "Well? How'd she do?" you can honestly say, "She was fine, so far as I noticed."

Can't, I'm basically holding my breath the whole ride. Well, except for the occasional scream of "slow down!" or "stop!". Maybe more than occasional...maybe a lot

They call me ... Sarcasmo
The komlet is a whopping 5 and has mastered the power slide and power packing with his battery operated John Deere Buck...:twitch:There may be a tire shortage in 11-12 years so stock up now. :lmao:

Ok....I've been thru 3 of them so far....

The first got 5 tickets and in 3 accidents(one of which was his fault) within the first 8 months of him having a license....he turned 22 in April and was finally eligible to get his "real license"

The next one(19) got his learners and I didn't think he was capable of maintaining a 3000lb vehicle with me, let alone on his own....he had his learners expire and is going down sometime in the near future to get it back(without the use of my vehicle)

The last one got his learners and actually didn't scare me too much....he has had his license for almost a year with no accidents(to other vehicles anyway) and no tickets *knockingwood*

I have another year and a half before the next one gets her learners, which will give me plenty of time to find a drug that will calm me enough to let her drive

The last one gets his in 6 years and I will need to be heavily sedated

My oldest is 22. Got his license at 18. Six days after getting his first car....totalled it. He had change the front right tire and didn't realize that the donut tire would change his stopping distance. #2 is 19....no wrecks or tickets. #3 is 16 and getting ready to start drivers' ed. #4 is 14 get to wait a couple of years. #5 is 12 and a girl. I hope that makes a difference.

Ok...

...yesterday was pretty good for the old heart rate.

Three times in 2.5 seconds, don't hit the curb...don't hit the curb...DON'THITTHECURB...missed by that >< much. :jameo:

She also did a park job that Ray Charles would have been proud of. :lmao:

On the plus side, there is a twisty road nearby that we travel alot and on the downhill leg her first two tries were lessons in how momentum works and this time she kept some decent control. Also, when she pulled into our neighborhood from the down hill side we did it on four wheels this time.

:lmao:

It's only been a few trips and I'm seeing some good signs of control.

#1 is 18 mos old. I am already worried. This thread isn't helping. :lmao:

Ha ha! This is exactly what I was just thinking! Except my #1 is only 7 1/2 months old!

But I remember being 15 with a learner's premit, and my mom's knuckles being white, holding onto the door of the car, as I drove down the straight part of Rt 6 doing about 75 mph, while she was yelling at me "DO YOU KNOW HOW FAST YOU ARE GOING???". I had a led foot!

I guess I have A LOT to look forward to, huh???

Kids are worth not KILLING!!!

Not all of them, of course, mind you, but damn, this ones doing OK.

We ran of to Target (last night Joanns, tommorow, Bed Bath and Beyond!) to get some stuff called...contact paper...and we went to Uno's first to get some grub which consisted of Rattlesnake pasta and some tall ones for the old man. (grilled chicken, penne, jalapeno's, extra jalepeno's, a bit of chedder)

So, I got a DD, use a DD!!!!

Her first time on the highway!!! Yee haw!

It is SO much easier to hold your breath when you've had a few cocktails first. It's a combination of relaxation and "Come on you bastards and gets what coming too yah!" at the same time!!!

:lmao: :jameo: :killingme

I have been driving for 10+ years and my mom still yells at me when she is in the car...oh and she is a master at the imaginary brake.

My oldest gets his learners in 5 years and it already makes my stomach turn!!!
