Lemon water, straight up...

Surely you jest ...
Anybody here do the glass of pure lemon and water (no sugar) every morning thing? If so what are your thoughts on it?

Its supposed to be good to help cleanse the liver daily. Helping rid you of toxins. Before I pucker up and jump on another bandwagon I need a little 'real people' feedback. I mean, straight lemon is not on my 'yummy' list anywhere.

I've often wondered about this as well. I'm not sure I could do it everyday though. I find I get heartburn if I drink lemonade for several days in a row, plus my ulcer acts.

I'm not picking on you, I just want you to really think about this:

Why would you need to cleanse your liver? It's a filtering organ, that's it's job.

What toxins? Specifically, what "toxins"? Again, if your liver isn't able to filter then you've got much bigger issues with your health than what a lemon water will be able to treat.

Do people do before and after analysis to determine the effectiveness? What sort of tests would show a "cleaner" liver?

I'm not saying its not working. I do try to believe in what seems to be natural preventative maintenance though. Sometimes little hidden things that are wrong, not symptomatic nor dangerous at the time can lead to those bigger things. My thoughts are to help avoid the little things.

Here is a link to the scientific, peer reviewed data that could potentially support your position.

Limonene - Scientific Review on Usage, Dosage, Side Effects | Examine.com

I'm a huge fan of food science. I love nutrition and food science so much that I earned a bachelors in it just for fun. So, let's talk about this.

Is your diet so poor that you are concerned of potential liver disease?

Is this a quick fix that you're using to make up for not having a healthy diet rich in fruits and vegetables?

Doesn't that sound a little too easy? If all it took to clear your diet mistakes was drinking a little lemon pulp juice everyday, wouldn't that be supported by scientists or, at least, health insurance agents?

Are you realistically going to stick with this if it's unpleasant?

If you had alternative methods of supplementing limonene into your diet, would you be interested in that instead?

Benefits drinking lemon water...so many articles about and people sharing how it helps them in different ways. Below is one of many reads. Anyway, have thought about trying but have never been good at sticking to anything. I do eat lemons whole occasionlly because I like them, which I have shared on this forum elsewhere.

It came across my desk so to speak. Someone asked me if I'd ever heard of it. I just thought I'd ask if anyone had, did it, why and if they think its worth it. Since many here seem to be into that sort of thing. While I don't have a bachelor's in anything, I'm not without common sense. I left this out of my reply to you, but I do know what the liver does. Shocking? It was a simple question only, not meant to spark a in depth conversation involving scientists and least of all insurance agents.

Thank for your input though. BTW if its unpleasant I don't suppose I would stick to it. You're right there. Sorry but your reply did overwhelm me to a degree. :buddies:

Long on assertions, short on factual data. Like this one.

Warm lemon water is the most effective way to diminish viral infections and their subsequent sore throats.

Wheres the science on that?

I wasn't trying to insinuate that NOT having a degree would mean that someone isn't smart in a particular topic. I was merely trying to provide my own credentials so that you or anyone else reading this knows that I speak from a little more experience than simply googling the topic.

No, I'm not shocked that you know what the liver does. That's why I tried to preface the original post with the whole "not picking on you" thing. I was just asking.

Ask people around you what "toxins" are. Or what "detoxing" means. Or what the liver does. You'll find, no matter what environment you work in or their level of education, that a large majority of people don't really understand those topics even though we all hear about them on a seemingly regular basis.

Also, I read some add honey to help the medicine go down.

Its my understanding it has to be straight up for this use. I do however use honey and lemon for sore throat. Honey soothes and lemon cuts the phlegm making it easier to clear throat.

One of my Aunts use to take two tablespoons cider vinegar a day.

She was a skinny thing. Not sure that was why.

I wasn't trying to lash back either. Sorry, really. You did make it clear that you weren't trying to pick . :buddies:

Hot cup of tea with lemon and honey is what I do. Helps.
