Does anyone have any experience with the place? I am adopting my 16 yo niece and considering LHJNA. Any opinions or advice about the place would be great.

Yes, I know the best advice would probably be to not adopt the 16 yo niece; but that part is already done.
I think they try to produce productive students. Have had some experience with the teachers and principle there and they seem to have the kids interests at heart.

My mom taught there for a bit. She said they run it very strict and really keep the kids in line.

I went there from 2001 to 2003. I enjoyed it, as I chose to go there. Some people think that parents send their children there because they are bad, and that they will get better through discipline. I chose to go there, one of my good friends was currently going there and I went to an open house before the school year started and I like what I saw. Plus I lost weight too with all the PT!!! Although I didn't finish HS there, I did learn alot and I gained more respect also.
Thanks for all of the replies; I'm feeling better about it. She's basically a good kid, she just isn't good at making decisions yet. So I'm hoping LHJNA will help since a lot of the decisions and distractions are gone. We go tomorrow to meet with them. She is excited to give it a chance, so hopefully it will work.

My SIL sent my nephew because he wasn't doing good in school and needed some decipline. It was a good experience for him. When it came time to go to high school, he had the option to stay there or go to a public high school (because LHJNA doesn't have a sports program) and he ended up staying there. He really liked it. It's not a big school so teachers can work with the students more if they are having trouble with a subject. I would definately send my child there if I could afford it.

went there, great school, love the atmosphere, miss it, any more questions? haha just read my previous post "smowlover409, yeah thats me!!" 
I just looked the school up on the internet. It does not detail the cost of admission. Very vague about the procedures of accepting students also. I am interested in this for my step son. Any one out there with some of these answers or just a little more info. it would be great to hear the feed back. Thanks!!

My girlfriend attended LHJNA, she was sexually abused by the Battalion Commander. Henry Barrington. The school was completely oblivious and ignored the signs, such as him constantly calling her out of class, shutting his office door and having the glass covered. She would come out of his office in tears and no one ever asked questions. Then when she stood up for herself and said something, the teachers didn't believe her. It took her going to the police and setting up a sting operation after he got her cell phone # from school records. He constantly called and texted her asking her to engage in sexual activity. Finally the police arrested him after trying to arrange a meeting at a local hotel. The school was a good place, but while this was taking place it definitely wasn't. I just hope they have new teachers who aren't ignorant to the fact that something may be going on. And they should have an open door policy. Since then Mr. Barrington has been fired and charged with a felony. The school is actually getting ready to go through a lawsuit with her family. So whatever funding they had before, mine as well cut it out! The families lawyer is Don Macari ! Just my two cents........

Yep, she was interviewed by E and she was also on the Montell Williams show. It's crazy what school officials think they can get away with.
I attended the school during the 2002-2003 school year. While the school has good intentions the cirriculum falls extremely short of the public school system. I learned nothing and easily maintained a 4.0 average during the whole year. There were no opportunities for AP classes or anything like that.
If your kid is an idiot than LHJNA might be a good place to send them to pad their GPA. I ended up going to Patuxent high and finishing in the top 10% of my class. Public school simply has more resources and more opportunities for kids to excel... The NJROTC program at PHS is ranked #3 in the country... When I was in NJROTC I could not believe the amount of things that were taught incorrectly to me at Leonard Hall...

- A thorough overview of the school’s program given by the Headmaster.
- An interview with the parent/guardian and student conducted by the Headmaster.
- A question/answer session for the prospective family conducted by the Headmaster.
- A tour of the facility given by the Headmaster or another staff member.
- A placement test given to the prospective student which is proctored by the Headmaster. The placement test battery is comprised of two sections: a timed, multiple-choice aptitude test ( OLSAT ) and a writing sample. If a student is scheduled to test, every effort will be made to accommodate special needs provided advance notice is given and LHNA is equipped to handle such needs.
- The parent/guardian will complete the prospective admissions paperwork which include but are not limited to: a transcript request form, parent information sheet and a student questionnaire.
- The results of the placement test scores are compiled within a timely manner.
- After the placement tests scores are published and the transcripts have been received, the Headmaster will determine the admissions status of the student. The importance of evaluating the transcripts is based on the need of the Administration to realize the academic and behavioral progress of the student in prior educational environments.
- Admissions status will be conveyed to prospective families in written format. If the student is accepted, the family is encouraged to enroll swiftly since the availability per grade is limited. If a student is not accepted, the family may request a conference with the Headmaster to discuss why the student was not accepted.

I am a 65 graduate when LKJNA was run by the Xaverian Brothers and it had both boarding and day students. It was a tough but good school then, and since I moved here some years ago, I went back to see what became of the place. Though it retains some of the military school practices I remembered, I wasnt wholey disappointed, but did note the many changes since my days.
It educates both sexes, goes to the high school grades now, all civilian teachers and a USMC instructor Other than the smaller numbers (no marching band) it is a microorganism of today military. It looks like it still tries to bring out the best in its students and the faculty does get the job done.
I admit to many deja vu feelings when I stood on the old ground and remembered classmates gone into the etherworld and wondered what happened to the friends that I did make there in 3 happy years.
LHS celebrates its 100th anniversery this September. Hopefully many of the alomni over the long years will attend and friendships renewed.
