Let's talk TVs

Sony Bravia I bought a little over a year ago now has several horizontal lines for a while after it is turned on. Then it clears up.

We bought a 47" LCD HDTV at Best Buy this weekend. I am guessing it is the store brand "Insignia" but it was a 1080 whatever & has a great picture and was on sale for 660.00. TV is just tv to me. I wanted to stay around 500 bucks but in our opinion even though it was more than we wanted to spend it was a good deal and it fits perfect on the stand we already had. We have a 37" Vizio in the bedroom that we purchased two years ago and it was a couple hundred more than the one we got this weekend. The prices have really become more affordable in the last few years. Good luck in your search.

The Best Buy web site has a nice article on the differences. We chose a plasma. The price was cheaper and we felt the colors were richer. Plasma doesn't have the issue of view angles. You can view from a side angle without distortion. Most tvs seem to have great pictures, price point was the deciding factor for us.

NEX just sent out a flyer on TV clearance sales. No sales tax alone is worth it on big ticket items.

Ooh, good to know. We were wanting to buy from the NEX - when does the sale end?

It says March 15-21 while supplies last. My flyer is for Everett WA., Charleston, Corpus, Gulfport, New London, NEw Orleans, Newport and Pax. That is not to say your NEX isn't having it too. Worth a shot.

Thanks. The closest to me is Hampton Roads, but if he found a good deal Dustin could just pick one up at PAX (if they're not on sale down here). Assuming he could fit it in his car.

I need some feedback on LCD vs Plasma. We're looking in the 40-42 inch range and while we don't need (or want) anything top of the line or super fancy, we don't want to just walk in and buy the cheapest one we can find either. Plasmas seem like a better deal for the money - are they? We've done some research online, and know about the differences in energy usage, refresh rate, lighting conditions, etc.

I should mention that we have no real desire to get a Blu-Ray player, so that's not a factor.

So what do you have, and do you love it or hate it?

In that size range I think Samsung tops all comers..
