bob bought the ML from Lex Park Ford, and later discovered that it was missing its owners manual, so he ordered one. Then discovered they had misled him about what equipment it had. He returned the vehicle last night, cancelled the sale, and this AM found out his manual had shipped.

So, he's got a manual for a truck he doesnt own. They, Lex Park ford, have a truck with no manual:)

Situation arose with them that we thought curious, and was wondering if anyone else had the same issue.

We bought a Mercedes ML350 from them, a year old, low miles.

The sticker on the window, the ad online, and the ad on CarFax stated the car was LOADED with options. We bought it, assuming we'd figure it out through the owners manual how to use them.. it took us 20 minutes to figure out how to open the hood (nobody at the dealer could do it) AND the car didn't have an owners manual.

Did research on the car, and found most of the upper end option were NOT on there.

No navigation.

NO HID lights.

No Power Lift Gate.

No Rain Sensing Wipers..

No Back Up Camera.

We didn't report them to the MD Consumer Affairs office, they blamed their website company, and said they did the window sticker too.. I don't REALLY believe that, but once I confronted them they agreed to take the car back.

If others have been lied to and cheated the same way I may change my mind about reporting them for misleading business practices.. deception.. etc..

I'm thinking I need to go back and see what they have on the NEW window sticker when they put it back on the lot.. because if it STILL says the same things then they are lying pricks, and need to be reported.

Bob - I would call Tom Cody as he is the owner of these dealerships. He is very personable and I would leave messages until he contacts you back. I would explain the situation to him directly as he may not know what is going on down there.

I bought my SuperDuty from there (from my step-son) and right after that there was some shake up in the dealership... I do not know what went down, but there was a change in command and the vibe in that place is different.

Call and try to get hold of Mr. Cody - 301-645-4900 - I would definitely make him aware of the situation, not getting ####ty with him but just to make him aware in a professional manner.

I am so very blessed
I love my new Highlander. It's purty.

And here's another funny thing to relay about the LexPk Ford experience: they said after Bob approached them about the "missing, but listed items" that they couldn't do anything to help us because they had severely overpaid on my trade-in. :roflmao: They had given me trade-in credit on a 2004, vs a 2002 that my old truck really is. Isn't it peculiar that I took a 2002 Ford product to a Ford dealership, but yet they made an error on giving me an accurate trade-in value? My estimate is that the old truck is worth +/- $3,500, but they gave me a trade-in allowance of $7,500. Stupid them for giving me too much value on my trade-in. However, we never mis-represented the old truck to say that it wasn't a 2002....and even all of the paperwork that they typed up shows a 2002 truck, not a 2004.

Oh, and the window sticker AND the web site shows the Mercedes as having the options of Trim Level PO-1, when that vehicle clearly isn't that at all. They claimed that the window sticker and the web site is handled by an outside company, and made no claims that LexPk Ford is responsible for errors on those two promotional items.

Standard dealer stuff, really. Were you financing through them? That would explain the extra trade-in, they usually hide that in the paperwork later.

They "give" you a high trade in value, more than they expect that vehicle to fetch wholesale (actual cash value), and make it up somewhere else, through financing, extras like paint and body sealant, VIN etching, wheel warranty, whichever. All of which cost pennies on the dollar and are real profit centers.

Or just mark up the vehicle your buying by an extra two grand. SUVs are flooding the market now, and at auction, where they got the Mercedes most likely, it was a low price. And if they priced the Merc as the Edition 10 model, which new listed for 8K more, they can make up that trade difference pretty quick.

If nobody at the dealership could open the hood, I would have to assume absolutly no service was done and would walk.

I don't know if it's still true, but it used to be Mercedes didn't require service until 50k miles..

The thing that sounds fishy is the VIN should tell someone who has access to all the stuff that a dealer does pretty much everything about a vehicle. It does for the insurance company, so why wouldn't it for a dealer?

:coffee:

You can't always trust the VIN either. I bought my car brand new and it had a 6 speed transmission. When I took it to the body shop to have some work done on it. The give you a paper with the vin and factory options. It stated that my car was an automatic which obviously was not correct.

All black? No trim?

It need silvered windows and spinners on the wheels with low-profile tires.

Is the moral of the story "don't buy a Mercedes from a Ford dealership"?

See, there's the rub.

It was a BEAUTIFUL car, and I think I got it for less than KBB trade in value..

I think they gave me a GREAT deal, BUT I still felt like I was lied to.

I'd bet it was a re-po, they bought it at auction at a GREAT price, they still made a profit, I got a great deal.. but when I got home I didn't care how great a deal I got. IF they had been honest from the jump, I would have been more than happy with what we got.

In My Opinion
IBut, heres the key, I have never said that detailed option information cannot be gotten with a VIN, but that

A) The VIN itself does NOT contain that info.
B) No dealership has access to the databases of other makes that allows them to get such info.

.
I understand what you are saying now.
however, with the VIN, he pulled those sheets for me.
and like I said, somehow he was able to pull the build sheet for the VW also.

Should I not ask him how he did this?
