Lexington Park - Westbury Division

Hi again... ok, I found a gorgeous house on Gooseneck Dr which my realtor said was in the Westbury division... the school is Greenview Knolls, which shows above average scores on the Md report card site (way better than several of the elementary schools in Lex Park)... SO.... what do you all think?? This house is so beautiful, but I've been hot/cold about Lexington park, but since this school has better scores, I feel better about it... the school has better scores than Leonardtown, which surprised me.... thank you all for putting up with all of my questions!!!

Westbury has had it's fair share of crime in the past.

You seem keen on the Lexington Park area. Let me give you this to consider.

There are quite a few folks who live in this area (St. Mary's County) who do not live in Lexington Park, who tend to think of Lexington Park, especially the Great Mills Road area as our higher crime area. And would prefer not to live anywhere close at all to Great Mills road.

Bring up google maps and scan the area. Several large Trailer parks down through there. Potential for more kids roaming around with nothing to do and there are periodic shootings, numerous drug issues and that sort of thing. If you look at Lexington Park on a Map. Any road that connects directly with great mills road should be looked at very carefully.

Say no to Westbury. You'll be surrounded with ghetto, trailers, and income based housing. There are other subdivisions in the Great Mills area that don't have those problems.

Great Mills Rd gives Lexington Park a bad reputation. Plenty of decent places to live in the area but anything adjacent to GMR needs careful consideration.

There is a nice home for rent right on Town Creek right across the street from the elementary school. I'm not sure if it is georgeous inside, but it looks pretty nice from the outside. It's typical for what you would see in this area

Town Creek is an older subdivision but the homes are well built and crime is not really bad. Or has not been since I moved here in '84. You might get the periodic mail box torn down or someone speeding up the road but anything other than those things are pretty infrequent. I love Town Creek.

I dunno about how well Town Creek Elementary is rated now but my boys went there years ago and it was a great school then. Appears to be now but I can't say first hand. Also have the pool right there close to the school as well. Pool requires an annual membership and I think it's around $300 or so. Not sure as I have not checked in a few years.

And the school has a decent little playpark for kids.

I just thought about this. I think that is the house 2 doors down from the guy that got busted with all the pot plants in his basement a few years ago. LOL

I googled it. LOL

I live close and have friends/coworkers in that hood. I like it, but posters here are right, while the particular neighborhood isn't ghetto, most of the surrounding area is. Personally, I usually don't mind. And the commute has me completely spoiled.

If you haven't noticed, there will always be someone with a beef in any area you choose. Good luck with your search!!

The house with the cross with red paint

Still, i don't get having a decent budget and yet trying to move into to one neighborhood and going through the hoops to get my kid into another school.

Ya the dope heads house is the 1st house on your right on Bee Creek Lane I think. But it's still a decent neighborhood. LIke I said before this sort of thing is pretty infrequent back here.

I looked at Google Maps and the street she is referring to is in West Westbury off Peggs Rd.. It's part of the newer buildings in the back end. It's a little more distant from the areas I would instantly associate with as being problem areas. It's not for me but I can see because of it's location it might not be quite as bad as what is on the other side of Pegg's. But I "think" there are some townhouse type places in the front of West Westbury that could be seen as being a little "Ghetto" as Forum Mommy states.

Also, just to clarify, Westbury subdivision does not go to Greenview Knolls Elementary. They go to Green Holly Elementary across from San Soucci. GKES is a good school though.

And there are standalone houses that are not in subdivisions. I know some people prefer that, but there's something to be said for having your own place with no HOA.
