Lexington Park - Westbury Division

hahaha!! thank you! I just look at this map and don't see that it would be so darn awful, but I get freaked by some of the advice on here!!

Westbury isn't that awful but the surrounding roads/neighborhoods are not always "safe." If you want to stay in the Lexington Park district, many -- including myself -- have suggested alternative neighborhoods.

I moved from a neighborhood in Lexington Park to another neighborhood in Lexington Park 3 years ago. I like the zip code. Wildewood is too stuffy for me and I feel like Leonardtown is too far.

I would listen to these forumnites. They do know what they are talking about.
You can't really tell what places are like from maps. You can't even tell from actually looking at neighborhoods and streets.
We bought our house in a quiet neighborhood--not packed in with other houses. It looked and still looks like it would be ideal.
Only recently did we find out that the house behind us houses "kids" that recently held up at gunpoint a gas station in the next town...and they were selling drugs several doors down. Believe it or not, we still consider it a great place to live. You are going to have crime everywhere...and the neighborhoods are going to "appear" to be nice and quiet with great homes...
Houses are intermixed also in neighborhoods, and stand-a-lone houses...we live in a very beautiful house and some neighbor houses are huge and even more beautiful. Yet, down the road, we have trailer houses. (but they are kept very nice--not run-down.)
You will be impressed, how well people keep their homes and land up!
You really don't have bad and run-down houses, clumped together so you can pass by a neighborhood and say, oh, this is a bad neighborhood...at least no places that I am aware of. People on these boards would know much more than I do. I am a transplant here...

Me, I lived about 1/2 mile away from Westbury for seven years, and prior to that about a mile away in the other direction, in whats considered one of the worse neighborhoods in the county, for three years before that. The part of Westbury you are talking about is the better of the two, that's true. But still, at that price point (only rental I see there is about 2K a month), I think you can get as good a house in a neighborhood that isnt surrounded by the lowest income housing in the county.

23133 Alder Ln, California, MD 20619 is For Rent - Zillow

24780 Old 3 Notch Rd, Hollywood, MD 20636 is For Rent - Zillow

41915 Nazareth Ct, Leonardtown, MD 20650 is For Rent - Zillow

46160 N Greens Rest Dr, Great Mills, MD 20634 is For Rent - Zillow

The local "crime triangle" is described as the area inside the boundaries of Great Mills Rd, Rt 235, and Chancellors Run Rd. Stay out of the triangle if at all possible.

Actually, that was about 15 minutes or less. Zillow allows you to search rentals only, and to filter by number of bedrooms, price, a whole host of criteria. I simply put in rentals only, and filtered results from $1850-$2000 a month.

I'm not sure where the school boundaries fall for those house, and there are some places Zillow doesn't hit, but you can do the same sort of search on SOMD.coms real estate page. I dont sweat the schools thing, my kids went through these "bad schools", and are doing fine. Girl did dual enrollment with the local community college her junior year, which was her last, since she graduated early. They never got bullied or beat up, it's pretty easy to avoid the bad elements or "ghetto kids" as they call them. They seemed to gravitate towards kids like themselves, the children of military folks, and other professionals.

Isn't Westbury in the Carver Elementary district? If so I would stay far away. Having lived close to the Westbury division and driving through there at different times during the day I would not live there!
