LG Tromm or Whirlpool Duet?

We have the Duet washer and dryer. I figured that living on a well, something that used less water was a good idea. However, I don't think it uses enough water and end up doing loads on the 'Bulky Items' setting to get more water. The spin cycle removes lots of water, so you use less dryer time. The dryer works great.

The big complaint: You can get mold growing in the gasket that seals the front door. The mold starts to stink and gets the moldy smell in your clothes. From the get-go, leave the door open any time you're not doing a load! This will let it dry out and help prevent the mold. There's some product to get rid of it that I've got to find...

Good info to know for someone new to front loaders. It says it in the manual but I'm sure a lot of people don't read it.

My new washer and dryer should be arriving in a week or so. I had my heart set on the LG front loads, but my DH let himself be talked into buying the Whirlpool Duet. I'm not overly thrilled w/ the reviews on the model we purchased. I guess anything right now is better than the POS the sellers left us. :ohwell:

You are going to love them! I saw we have the 4t's not the 3's... they are awesome!

We ended up getting the HE5's with the steam treatment setting. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THESE WASHER AND DRYER'S!!!! I cannot say enough about this set! Everything I put in it comes out looking brand new and smells sooooooo much cleaner than with the old set! Not to mention how much I can wash and dry at one time. The only drawback that I can see is the fact that they take longer to do the wash, but that is because they use less water (77% less water to be exact!) and less electricity to get your clothes clean.

Again I cannot say enough about these washers and dryers!

By the way, Kenmore is made by Whirlpool, so I still got my Whirlpools! :yay:

It'll probably take me forever to figure out how to work the damn things when they get here. :dork:

This is the refrigerator we ordered. I actually think I'm more excited about having a refrigerator w/ room again than a new washer and dryer. Whoever invented side by side refrigerator/freezers should be tarred and feathered.

Wow very nice! I HATE my side by side, but we got it on the scratch and dent for half of what we would have paid for a perfect one. You can barely see the damage and the inside is way better than the one I had before. If I ever have to get a new one, I will get the one with the bottom drawer.

This is a pic of my washer and dryer.

Nice! The bottom drawers are nice just to lift them up in the air 10"... it keeps you from stooping down REALLY low to unload them. :yay:

Yeah, my mom was here not too long ago and saw mine on the pedestals and said now she wishes she had gotten the pedestals!

I have a brand new washer and dryer with the pedestal. My hubby got them for me for Christmas. :blushing: He said I earned them because I'm such a wonderful wife and mother and he wanted the best for me. :blushing: :huggy:

I will text you on what kind of machines I have. We got them from Lowes and it is an Aspen Green. :yay:

She can probably still get them and they are not hard at all to put on... might be worth the effort!

We did not even think about it until the salesman mentioned that to us, the height of the washer/dryer. That alone sold me!

Also, how long is it going to take for the awful hot new dryer stink to wear off when it's running? I don't think I want my clean laundry smelling like that. Wish I had a clothesline here at the new house. :ohwell:

a week............relax.

Use some dryer sheets.........

Does anyone else have MASSIVE vibration problems on spin cycle w/ their Whirlpool Duet?! When that thing gets going...WHOO BOY STAND BACK! :jameo: It threw the detergent bottle off onto the floor and everything else I set up there. Yes I know I have the pedestals, but nothing really fits in them. And the detergent bottle leaks now when placed on it's side since it went flying. :ohwell: Washer is totally level and so forth. Hopefully DH can figure out the problem this week. I do like them so far and they do a great job washing and drying.

On a side note, the new Samsung refrigerator was delivered on Sunday and I frickin' love it. :yay:

The pedestals are the problem, I'm betting. That was why I didn't waste the money for them. I did a ton of research and that was a major complaint. Are they on cement floor? There seems to be a problem, even without the pedestals, if the washer is placed on any other type of floor.

My washer spins like a jet engine but it is very smooth.

No, I don't have any MASSIVE vibration problems on spin cycle with my Whirlpool Duet.

I have pedestals too.... Sound like you need to get your washer fix. Get it fix while it is still under the warranty.

We got the GE front loaders about a year ago. The only problems we've had:
- The washer ate a pen and it was screwing up the spin (covered under warranty). The mechanic guy mentioned that this is fairly common with front-loaders because of the high spin rates and larger drain holes.
- The washer isn't big on lots of towels at once. Takes a few tries to get them balanced before the spin cycle. It'll do them, though.

It came with a DVD on how to use the pair, which was funny. It mentioned running the dryer twice with a dryer sheet to get rid of any smells, which either worked or there wasn't any smell because we never noticed anything. As for balance, they were easy to balance on the pedestals since the delivery guys did it for us. The instruction DVD mentioned that the washer might move as much as 1/4 an inch either direction while in full spin (which is like a jet engine revving up) so you're supposed to buy the optional top-counter that has a gel-pad or some other vibration-reducing stuff on it. I'm sure that would have run a hundred bucks for what amounts to a plastic shelf and a mat.

One word of advice for concrete/tile laundry floors. Go to a home improvement store and get some non-skid foam floor mats (the kind with the puzzle piece sides that link together) or the mats that cashiers stand on, cut them to size and throw a bath mat over them. Use them where you fold laundry and your feet will thank you.

Not on cement floors. In the mudroom off the kitchen on linoleum. They're quiet otherwise. If DH can't come up w/ a solution, I'll just keep everything off the top and close the door to the mudroom when it's running.

My s-i-l had that set up...mud room, plywood subfloor covered with linoleum. She had to return the washer. It's not good for the washer to vibrate like that...at least that's what the service guy told her. She opted for pretty much the same washer but a top loader.

We have the Kenmore flavors and spinning at ~1300 RPM's we have little to no vibration, and they are on pedestals.

Our floor in the mudroom is ceramic tile over concrete...
