Well, it is rather refreshing to know that coaches can still be fired for SH!! besides sexual molestation. :whew:

Under maryland public school law, coachs can hold offseason conditioning but it has to be open to al the sports for that season (ie Fall). Apparently he was running plays with his guys at these training sessions. He was told to stop by the principal and the dir. of athletics for SMCPS and refused. Thet were left with no other choice but to fire him.
Correct, he was warned and kept doing it. If the school did not do something with him they would loose ALL the fall sports programs in SMCPS.

It was not Raley or Greer.

And the coach came from Lackey, now he is just teaching not coaching

Oh, great. He can't follow the rules on the field, so they stick him in a classroom?

I met a met McGrath at Chopticon last night. History teacher. He was the only one in gym shorts and a tee. I could tell he's going to be the "fun" teacher.

The coach that came to leonardtown was the coach from Lackey... He basically cussed out the AD in front of all the players...what it was for I am not sure, My source... well my sister and numerous other teachers that work at LMS... :)

So yeah... it was the ex Lackey coach...

Nothing to see here
Leonardtown has fired first-year football coach Nate Kmieciak before he even coached a game, dismissing him last week over a dispute regarding his presence at a summer football camp.

When you break all the coaching rules for 8 years no wonder you can win games and titles

8/15 is the lucky day. That is the day set forth by SMAC for all fall sports to be able to implement real coaching not just conditioning. When I played under Hoop at GMHS several years ago, we had practice that started at 12:01 on 8/15 called it Midnight Madness. Those were the days. Anyway it is just wrong for a Coach to try and backside the SMAC, but at the same time, if he was trying to put together a totally different program that is hard to do in two weeks. Try it sometime, not making excuses for him, just look at it that way too is all that I ask. We had a Coach come from Leonardtown to coach us midway through my high school career, it was tough to adjust to a totally new program in two weeks, especially one as hard to grasp as the wing T was. Probably why we went 0-10 that year. Anyway just my two cents.

The article says;
MPSSAA rules allow first-year coaches to work with their teams in offseason camps provided less than 80 percent of his returning players are on the team. At an Aug. 14 meeting that included Larnerd, O'Neill and St. Mary's County Athletic Director Andrew Roper, Kmieciak said he had satisfied those guidelines.
So, if the new coach was within the guidelines of only having 80% returning players then what's the problem? There has to be more to the story.

Duh

Just figured it out - sorry I feel so blonde now it was right there. when my son played for LPHS in Chuck county - the coach sucked. He would only play the moeny players. My son was 6'5" and 360# padded. He said because he was considered a special ed student he couldnt play as much as the other players. DUH - he was the biggest kid in Charles County - he was def. nose tackle and made a touch down - humm he was special alright - but arent all football players "special" ??????

Most likely. My guess is he pissed off some parent who has some influence and would not back down. My understanding is the football team was doing nothing the soccer team hasn't done. Just nobodies complained about the soccer program at LHS.

Whether it was a parent who complained or not, the fact is he was told to stop by his superiors and either did not or mouthed off to them. With that attitude he should not even be teaching let alone coaching. It is this win at all costs for school sports that breeds this attitude instead of learning sportsmanship.

It's most likely because they wasn't wining games. I went to LHS and I went to a few games and they do sucked..
