Well basically talking to different people and reading different things has got me a little confused about what i need to do to get a bike licence.

Ive heard you can take that safety course and then turn paperwork in and your done.

Ive heard you have to complete an mva test and then drive with a regestered driver that has been driving for 3 or more years.

There are a few more but basically id like to get an idea what would be the best idea. Im looking to start this all next spring perhaps

I guess you are talking about a Maryland Motorcycle License?

Complete Requirments can be found on: http://mva.state.md.us/MVAProg/MOTO/default.htm

Main Requirements:

REQUIREMENT FOR APPLICANT UNDER 18 YEARS OF AGE DRIVER EDUCATION

All applicants under 18 years of age and all new drivers regardless of age, must
have satisfactorily completed an approved driver education course of not less than
30 hours classroom instruction and six (6) hours behind-the-wheel driver training. A
certificate from a Maryland or an out-of-state driving school must be presented when
appearing for the driver’s examination. Driver education may be obtained through
some public schools, parochial or private high schools, and driving schools licensed
by the Motor Vehicle Administration.

MOTORCYCLE SAFETY COURSE

Applicants under 18 years of age must also successfully complete an approved
motorcycle safety course. These courses are taught at training centers operated by
the Maryland Motorcycle Safety Program. The Motorcycle Safety Program’s Basic
Rider Course is the approved course for applicants under 18 years of age. The
course includes classroom and “on the motorcycle” riding experience. Courses are
conducted between April and October of each year. Training motorcycles and some
safety equipment are provided. Students who successfully complete the Basic Rider
Course receive a Completion Certificate to obtain a class “M” License. If this is
their first license, a Driver Education Course Completion Certificate is also required.
For information about the course and registering for a Basic Rider Course, call 1-
800-638-1722.

CO-SIGNER OF MINOR’S APPLICATION FOR A LICENSE

The application of a minor for a learner’s permit and license must be co-signed
by the minor’s parent.

If the applicant has no parent, then a legal guardian may co-sign the application.

However, if the minor is married, the spouse, if an adult, may co-sign the
minor’s application.

If the applicant has no parent, guardian or spouse, then an adult employer of the
applicant or any other responsible adult may co-sign the minor’s application.

The individual co-signing the application of the minor shall certify that the
statements made in the application.

If you've never ridden, take the safety course at CSM. They provide a bike and it's no big deal if you drop it.
You buy or borrow one and drop it, then it's a big deal

Assuming you have a MD drivers license and are 18, you need to take the written m/c test. That will get you a learners permit. With that you can ride with licensed riders. Then you need to take the m/c riding/skill test on a bike that you have ridden or trailored up there. I think you have 6 months or so to do the riding/skills part.

Yes you assumed correct. I am In fact over 18 and have had a regular MD licence for awhile.

So basically I can go up and take the written test at Loveville and that will get me a learners, from there how long must I ride before i can take the driving test and get the real licence?

Ive been debating that course because it was like what, 200 dollars... Is it that good of a course or what?

If I do take the course what then. I assume I get a certificate and then take that to the MVA and that will get my real licence? Im not sure how that works out...

I'm fairly sure you could take the riding test the same day if you were fortunate enough to be ably to schedule it right. In other words, no training period.

The course is good and when you pass it you are good for your license, still have to get the picture taken at MVA though. If you don't pass you can still go take the riding test at MVA.

You might want to download the book from MVA to study before you take the written test.

The course is excellent. Well worth the $200. I can attest to that.

Yea ive had the book for a little now and im very confident that i could pass no problems. Heck i only missed one question on the car licence. It was the one about what color is the tip of a blind persons cane...HAHA

Sounds like that course will be my ticket, Nice refresh and i can get used to road not dirt. So in short take that course then present certificate for real licence, no learners... Sounds good. Thanks everyone!

V Strom comes in a 650cc
TDM 800
Bob's BMW has several in that size

Don't go solely on engine size. A 600cc jap sport bike is a hell of a lot more difficult (and faster) than a 1800cc Harley

:yeahthat: A lot of higher end CC bikes out there that are BIG framed. I'd look silly on a 600CC bike other than maybe the Wee Strom..

I've got an 1150cc bike that is perfect power wise, and a good sized frame so I'm not riding around with my chin resting on my knees..

A lot of the new mid-size cruisers are BIG bikes, a lot bigger than they need to be but cruisers are all about stylin'
