Liquor store next to Westlake High School

I'm not reading the article because I don't see a problem with this. I mean, there should be no problem as long as they don't sell to anyone underage. There's lots of houses around there too, it's not just a random school with a liquor store next door.

It's a tough one to swallow, but they're in full compliance with the law. People are raging about it over on Ken Robinson's Facebook.

Fact is, the Board of License Commissioners has to grant their permit. They have laws they have to obey. You can't just deny permits and licenses because you don't like something. Though I imagine this shop will face extra scrutiny from law enforcement and won't be given much leeway if they screw up.

Fun fact: There's a Buffalo Wild Wings Bar and Grill right next to Urbana High School in Frederick County.

That whole damn shopping center is stupid. The 7-11 will be full of kids cutting clas from westlake.

I agree, kids will probably be cutting class for a Slurpee and a Big Bite but I also think it's great for the people that live around there. Hopefully there will be a truancy officer (or whatever their title is) stopping in periodically to send those lil suckers back to school.

This is what local governments do all the time.

But legalizing drugs is ok?

The thing about freedom is, sometimes we have to accept something we don't like. The location of this place sucks but the law is the law. And, quite honestly, the location of this shopping center is bloody brilliant.

I don't think people should be raging over it, my opinion. And if they screw up and allow children to buy alcohol then they should be in trouble/shut down/etc.

I haven't seen the Charles County Board of License Commissioners do this. I've sat there and watched them scold people for hours about how much they really don't like something but say they are compelled by law to approve the permits.

When I went to HS we were lucky enough to have Green Acres right across the street. At any given time, there were 1,2 or 40 kids in there at a time. :killingme

Why do people think that the area around a high school should be sanitized? WTF? Have any of you ever been in a city?

My high school had at least a dozen stores that sold booze within 500 yards. Didn't make any of us drink more. The nearest head shop was five miles away, and there were no pot stores, but pot was rampant.

Liquor stores aren't the problem. Helicopter parents and sniveling ass nanny state liberal dweebs are the problem.

There are three liquor stores within a mile of each other and we already have half empty strip malls in the area, the location was stupid.

But it is hard for you to digest which means you have a moral issue with it, yet you have no moral issue with legalizing dope.

“The kids want to get the liquor, and you’re putting this right next to Westlake? You know what’s going to happen. You’re opening the door for trouble, and that school’s already got enough problems as it is.

Kids were getting liquor long before this store was built. And I don't think they'll sell to any toddler who wanders over there from the daycare so I don't see what the problem is.

That's a very frequently traveled road in a very populated area with what would be a convenience store and a liquor store that isn't as difficult to get to (for people in that side of St. Charles) as the other nearby shopping centers. That one over by Food Lion - trying to get there is so convoluted. And when traffic's heavy, trying to get anywhere in that shopping center across from the mall can drive a sane man mad.
