Why pay the same cash for 2/3 of a truck that gets the same milage, is less comfortable and you cannot carry a sheet of plywood in? Get yourself a Chevy Silverado 2WD Ext cab or a GMC Sierra 2 WD ext cab. You will be very happy.

I avoid Dodge because they are cheap, there are a million of them, they get worse milage than a comperable Chevy or GMC, less power and more headaches.

I am biased toward GM, but I am not kiiding about skipping a Dakota and getting a full size. It is well worth it.

According to Edmunds.com, Dodge Dakota has consistently been the highest rated mid-size 4-door truck since its inception. It has gotten the Editors Choice a couple years and a Consumer Rating above 8.0 for every year. It's the roomiest mid-size available and

Full-size trucks are more expensive to insure, about $3-6K more expensive to purchase, and get, on average, about 2-5 mpg less than a mid-size. And the additional cost of $3-6K is not in my budget at the moment. I'm trying to borrow as little as possible, and I've almost got enough moo-lah to pay cash for a Dakota.

I have yet to test drive any, but I plan on doing it this weekend. I'm a big fan of Dodge as my dad has owned Dodge Rams for a few years and they've been highly reliable.

However, Pete, if I don't like it after I test drive it, I'll be sure to keep your suggestions in mind. Thanks for the advice. It's good to see that you can be nice to me on occasion.

At least go drive a full size chevy, price it and see if it is really that much more. Insurance I am willing to bet will not be that much cheaper and I seriously doubt milage between Dodge which historically has been horrible and any other make will be in Dodges favor. Then again 2 MPG is not a big deal. The thing with "mid-size' is what are they comparing it to? All the other small trucks are much smaller Ranger? S-10?. Go drive it and compare but it would suck to have a "truck" and not be able to haul a pile of lumber in the 5 1/2 foot bed or not be able to lay a sheet of plywood between the wheel wells because it is only 45 inches wide and have to ask someone with a big truck to help you.

Nah, go with a Dakota. You CAN put plywood (or anything else) in it just the same as any other truck. I don't think you can lay plywood down in a chevy bed with the tailgate closed, so what's the difference on how far it sticks out past the tailgate. AND you have 4 actual doors instead of those half doors that you have to open the front door first, then do the opposite when you close them or risk busting a hinge. Also, personally, I like the way Dakotas and Rams look compared to the boring azz looking chevys. To each their own though

You are right, you cannot close the tailgate but that is not what I was talking about. I was talking aobut the inability of a 48 inch sheet of plywood fitting in the 45 inches that exists between the wheel wells of a Dakota. This means you have to tilt it in and let it wobble around while you drive or make a platform with the two tier loading using 2 x 6's and let the sheet sit above the wheel wells.

I have had both, full size and mid size and prefer full size.

BTW the resale value of that boring ass Chevy is much better too.

Like I said, to each their own. Not sure where you get your info about the resale, seems to me that would be on a case by case basis on who pays what for what. Either way, I'm happy and you're happy so the world is good.
