Looking For Fellow Model Railroaders

I have just recently for no apparent reason been bitten by the train bug again. :whistle:Thats false it came from taking my 3 yr old to the B&O museum. Man that place has changed since I was a kid. Anyhow I primarilly am a HO Scale modeler. Well if anyone else is afflicted with this syndrome don't be afraid to chat.

I gave all my trains to my brother-in-law last year. Don't have room to set them up here and they're getting used over there.

Seriously though I do think I would like to get back into the hobby. The great thing about the hobby is helping others with there layouts.

Hello, we have a fairly new (and as yet unnamed) model railroad club open to anyone interested. We are an informal group (no dues or officers) and usually meet the 4th Thursday of the month at the La Plata Train Station Museum at 7:30PM.

A number of us have no room for a layout so we plan on building a modular layout (already have the 4 corner sections built) for those who would like to run trains but don't have the room.

Unfortunately due to schedule conflicts there will be no January 2009 meeting. Watch the New Model Railroad Club Forming in SOMD thread for the announcement of the next meeting.

PM me for more info.

ok I am still a little afflicted. I grew up less than 100 yards from N&W tracks. I now live almost the same distance from the other tracks in hagerstown. I am near town and a sharp 90degree turn so its all short slow trains. ugg

I had a few HO scale trains as a kid. When my son was born in 97 i decided to buy a small G scale set for the christmas tree. OK it was NewBRITE I know I am a cheapskate. The set still worked fine this christmas till a little horse play ended with someone falling on the engine. I got the engine working again but most of the details got broke. I still gots my wind up train the first I ever got. still in the orginal box.

My biggest question is has any one here attempted building track from scratch??? I think that would be the coolest project. BTW I am a metal fabricator. Cutting the ties from something like oak pallet material ... I think I mght buy another G scale train and maybe an n scale to run around inside it.

When I was in high school my father, younger brother and I built a large HO scale layout in our attic. My father was also a "bit" of a tightwad and insisted that we could hand lay track just as easily as laying sectional or flex track.

HA! What tedious work, bending over the benchwork, using needlenose pliers to drive the small spikes into the crossties we'd glued down, all the while having to constantly check the gauge to make sure that the clearance was just right.

It may not be so laborious in a larger scale. Try Googling "Garden Railways" or "Garden Railroads". I received a number of hits-there may be something useful to you there.
