If I may ...

Back when the Sololoms HI first opened, we went there with clients and just for a dinner out because it was about the only decent game in town besides Lenny's , the Roost, or the Belvedere.
But but but, The Pier on the island? Swanky, no? Back in the day during the slots era in Maryland, the pier used to have slots. But Lenny's, the Roost, and the Belvedere ... good 'ol down home 'ol fashioned good food, and service. Just like the Aqua Land Restaurant that used to sit on the Potomac River under the Nice Bridge. They also had slots as well.

Oh yeah. And Charles County had its very own missile defense system. That's how important it was back in the day. Not. This was in the area of what is Pinefield in Waldorf. Pretty sure nowadays they just bury them in undisclosed locations today.

I remember real estate listings in the back of Soldier of Fortune and Mother Earth News advertising these ex-missile sites for sale back in the late 70's.

That image is from the Granite site west of Baltimore as it was a "double" Nike site with six clusters of launchers versus the usual three.

Huh, didn't know. The remnants of the site are still there.

I had completely forgot about that. My cousins bought one of the first houses in Pinefield. I remember going on Country Lane with the fence and seeing these buildings.

Wasn't there (maybe still is) some kind of Indian land where they had Pow Wows and such right before Pinefield's back entrance?

Yes. Piscataway Indians. It was somewhere right around there. Do they even have those anymore? Seems to me sometimes that held them on the Curtis Farm in Brandywine on 301 too. Also on Cedarville Road past the back road to Pinefield.

The property was leased by the Maryland Indian Heritage Society at one point, might still be.

Hmmm....I remember the huge craft fair they used to have every year on Curtis Farm. They've changed and jacked up the roads around there so much it's hard to remember what was what and where anymore.

They were right on 301 northbound. I rarely go past Waldorf anymore. I wonder if that's still in the Curtis family. I just googled the Pow Wow. The tribe held it every year for 38 years but it didn't say when or why they stopped. I do remember now it stopped but not what year. It's been quite awhile.

I worked for a brick layer in 1983 and we did some houses in Pinefield. When I look at Google Maps, it's so big now, I can't even begin to figure out where we worked. :faint:
