There are a million people applying for these entry level positions with DoD contractors, so you're either going to have to really stand out or have a friend who will put in a good word for you. Someone else could tell you better than me, but my understanding is that the government contracts are fairly fluid right now and contractors are cutting back big time. So if you're looking for that type of employment, you're going to have a rough time of it.

Even though places such as Giant, Safeway, Home Depot all do online applications, I had a friend submit an online application, BUT, she delivered a hard copy to the manager at the Upper Marlboro store, told him of her experience (none in retail, but she was layed off for reasons out of her control). she was hired.

Take incentive and talk to hiring managers. don't rely on the on line application process.

The questions I would ask the OP are: what would a potential employer find if they looked you up on the MD judicial case search site or did a background check on you? Also, what would a potential employer see if they looked you up on Facebook? Would your last job give you a decent reference?

I recently hired two very nice women. One of them I created a position for after contacting a small business she worked for a few years ago. The owner told me I would be a fool to let her get away! She has proven to be an outstanding employee.
The other person, I looked on her FB page and liked what I saw. She does not party, attends church and is an exceptional young lady! Her FB page was not filled with drama and she appears to have nice friends and a close knit family.

excellent point!!

I tried to hire a guy and he needed a background check, found out he had silly violations and all he had to do was go to the court and pay a small fee to have each one removed. Serious ones won't be removed as easy. Even if you lost your home or came close to it and papers where filed it will be in those records, some don't realize that.

If you are paying min wage, of course that is all you are going to get around here.

If he is paying min wage that is all he is going to get any ware. People get what they pay for, as for the OP I am also curious what field she is looking to get into because if it is retail I see help wanted signs all the time. There was one in Sheetz just last week.

Once you get about 60 miles west of I-95 the quality of the mininum wage employee goes way up.

A good point. Hopefully she gets passed the online psycho evaluation

Which market is that?

Just because places are hiring, does not mean they will hire any applicant. Even for entry level retail places have gotten picky. I will look when I get home, but my wife was sending out 5-10 applications a week. Talking to several hiring managers in the process, several said that she was over qualified for what she applied for, which is a risk for the employer itself.

She got picked up by a good company, and is still in her career field. It was also not through someone in the company pushing her resume through, it was from the online pool of applicants.

Crap. I guess I need to start looking for a new job now versus September. :ohwell:
:smack:

:ohwell: I just want to win the lottery and work part-time at Joanne fabrics.
you and my s/o should both do that.

I own my own company, have been looking for honest, god, reliable help since November of ten years ago,,,,its not out there. Cant locate an honest, reliable, dependable person with a license who doesn't constantly swear and use the F word in every sentence....
what kind of employee are you looking for? that's incredibly vague. are you looking for someone to deliver a pizza, haul trash, or manage an office? different jobs get different people.

He said he was looking for a god, I suspect that the applicant pool for that is rather shallow.

:roflmao:

Especially if the offer is for minimum wage :ohwell:

But if he wants to pay a good salary for someone of that stature, I'm sure people would listen!
