I registered on this site today in hopes of finding someone who could tell me where I could get an Alaskan Malamute puppy, either from a breeder or rescue/adoption organization. I have checked the Internet and local papers but want an opinion from someone who has used the person/organization that can tell me that they are or are not reputible. Any help would be appreciated.

I know of an AWESOME Siberian Husky who needs a home. He is >3 and soo freaking nice. His only problem is that he doesnt get along well with other dogs. He is up for adoption!!

I got the "red" kharma because I posted a reccommendation to people's inquires to looking for child care and they (admin, I guess) considered it to be a classified ad and told me to post it there. I was just trying to help. I'm new to this so I don't know the "rules" yet.

Ah. In that case, I take back my previous post.

Well EXCUSE ME! The other post was deleted and when I posted his post count was "1". Therefore it led me to believe he was given the red for his post in THIS thread.

I've looked at Chaamps website and petfinders.com already. Most of the dogs on pefinders are ones also on Chaamps. They seem to have too many after-adoption requirement such as visiting with your family/dog after the adoption has been finalized. Also they require professional obedience training. I have had dogs all my life and can do basic training (sit, stay, don't jump up on people) myself. I saw an ad in the Washington Post awhile back for a breeder in MD who was selling puppies but we had to wait until our fence in our backyard was put up from my husband building his monster hot rod garage. I know the adoption process takes awhile so I want to get an idea of where I could find one that would fit with my family.
My husband would love that Huskie that was posted as needing adoption. Can you give me more info?

If you are still looking for one PM me. My parents have 2 and they know the best breeders. They are wonderful dogs. However, they are not the kind of dogs that you want to get from a rescue service. You do not want a skittish Malamute. You want to make sure that they come from a good bloodline as well. Their health issues are alot to deal with if they come from a poor bloodline. They are massive dogs and their vet bills can be outrageous. :yay:

I agree if you really want to buy a purebred and have the money a reputable breeder is going to charge, please go that route, BUT - do NOT rule out all rescue dogs.

A reputable rescue, ESPECIALLY if you go to a breed specific rescue is going to evaluate these dogs before adoption so you should have an idea of what you are getting. Amazing dogs of all breeds, and alot of PUREBREDS wind up in rescue and the shelters every day, many of these dogs have absolutely no problems, other than being purchased/owned by someone that couldn't keep them for whatever reason.

My parents have had these dogs for years. They tried to adopt an older one years ago. I would highly suggest that you get one as a young puppy. They do not adapt well to new owners. They are highly territorial. Especially the males. They love to #### their legs.

Culpeper is pretty far but who knows. May be worth the distance. Someone PM me about a lady in California, MD who was advertising one. Will have to contact her too once I talk with hubby.

This is what the volunteer said:

She is a stray , no cats, dogs would be fine, kids don't know she is still a puppy, 6 months old, has not been fixed.

I can check to see if she is still available, they may "transport" to the DC area, in which case she would have to come in as a rescue for you to adopt from. We would probably need to make some decisions soon. Please send me a PM
