Which one of you has forty years of experience working with Russia?

Hint the other is a racist with a dial up connection and a conspiracy theory that only the dumbest of the deplorables believes.

A retired military officer and expert in Russia who has been a long time Fox contributor quits in disgust adding he believe the Steele dossier rings true.

“Four decades ago, I took an oath as a newly commissioned officer. I swore to ‘support and defend the Constitution,’ and that oath did not expire when I took off my uniform,” he reminded. “Today, I feel that Fox News is assaulting our constitutional order and the rule of law, while fostering corrosive and unjustified paranoia among viewers.”

“To me, Fox News is now wittingly harming our system of government for profit,” he concluded.

“As an intelligence professional, I can tell you that the Steele dossier rings true–that’s how the Russians do things,” he noted. “The result is that we have an American president who is terrified of his counterpart in Moscow.”

He does realize Obama is not still in the White House, doesn't he?

And yet, he doesn't laugh at Hillary for being a birther. Of course people who laugh at Hillary don't tend to laugh long. They tend to grow despondent and take their own lives; often in physically challenging ways, like shooting themselves twice in the back of the head.

nice bit of fiction ..... Peters Nuked the Shark a while ago

Well then just keep making stuff up based on nothing but a feeling.

IRONY Right There

Like when they attempted to influence our election?

Given that they tried to influence every election of ours since the sixties, I'm not sure what the issue is.

you mean since like Stalin was in charge ... and yeah the KGB funded many Anti WAR Groups in the 1960's

Fox News Fires Back at Ralph Peters: Using His Opinion as ‘Weapon in Order to Gain Attention’

Fox News has now responded. And the network didn’t mince words.

“Ralph Peters is entitled to his opinion despite the fact that he’s choosing to use it as a weapon in order to gain attention,” the network said in a statement to Mediaite. “We are extremely proud of our top-rated primetime hosts and all of our opinion programming.”

Among Peters’ criticisms of Fox News in the Age of Trump, the retired US Army lieutenant colonel took aim at the network’s primetime hosts for “scaremongering with lurid warnings of ‘deep-state’ machinations” when it comes to Special Counsel Robert Mueller and the Russia probe.

One can only assume how Tucker Carlson and Sean Hannity will react to that shot. Especially considering Peters and Carlson got into it during a segment last summer, with Tucker accusing Peters of comparing him to a “Nazi apologist.”

If Peters is so gotdamned smart why isn't he a full bird , or a freaking Major General;.?
Man like him ought to have George Marshall's rank at least.

Okay I'll bite. I don't have 40 years of experience working on Russia, but neither does/did Ralph. But I did have almost 30 years of experience working on and against the Russians, so I claim the right to call 'b*llsh*t."

As I said, I worked with Ralph. As I also said, one shouldn't believe his work claims. 40 years working on Russia? No. Worked in the Project MIA office for a bit in the mid-late 1990s, I believe, but other than that, nada. He never held any of the jobs we Russian specialists did; instead, early on he retired (claiming that he was run out of the Army due to opposing illegal practices in the Project MIA offices (or something along those lines*) to write novels, non-fiction, newspaper columns, etc. His experience and expertise wrt Russia is pretty much the same as a university professor's: mostly from afar. Not bad, just not as comprehensive as he would like you to think (e.g., given his difficulty in mastering Russian, his claim on his book jackets about being fluent in 27 or so dialects is laughable).**

* So you see, Ralph has a tendency to go all melodramatic and see controversy when it suits his purposes (in the Project MIA instance, many believed he was called on his level of BS re: Russia. Also, he was told he wasn't going to make Colonel, so he created a public crisis to make himself look good).

**Ralph's (and others') tendency to inflate CV's reminds me of an experience I had early on in my Army career. I was at an SF A Team demo (like the scene you see in "The Green Berets") and one of the team members stepped forward and made the claim (in French) that he spoke French fluently, etc. Well, I did too, so after the demo I went up to the NCO and spoke French. He had no idea what I was saying. Turns out he only had a 1+/1+ proficiency (meaning, basic; "tourist ++" as it were). Needless to say, I was disappointed, as well as welcomed to the world of "high cynicism." In other words (and to rearrange the poem), "all that glitters isn't always gold." Same with Lt Col Peters. I graduated Russian Basic at DLI with a 3/3/2+ (pretty much best one can do and third in my class) and still considered my Russian barely sufficient. Ralph, if I recall correctly, barely graduated (2/2/1+?). So not slandering Ralph, merely putting it all into perspective....

See Post #34.

(Also, to be fair, he did serve 2-3 years enlisted time so by the time he was commissioned he had accumulated significant time in service. This may have worked against him; the highest someone can expect to be promoted in a specialty field like his/mine ("Functional Area 48E": at that time, called "Soviet and East European Foreign Area Officer") if they had enlisted time was/is more likely than not Lt Col.)

Look up Phil Berg; he was the first “birthed” and worked for Mrs. Clinton.

Yes. I’ve read about the tenuous connection.
It doesn’t mean Clinton believes it or supported it.
Just like Uranium one it’s BS.

But you will believe anything about Clinton while defending every actual proveable action by Trump.

Why didn’t Fox News here you as an expert then instead of him?

He obviously brought some expertise to the table they were willing to pay for.

With relation to this thread, what is provable? What have I defended?

Okay, two questions here.

Let's deal with the second one first. Yes, Ralph did bring expertise to the table (as I said in my earlier post a few weeks back). But Ralph's tremendous strength was his strategic thinking and his blunt way of stating what war means, what it seeks to accomplish, and what it can't do. His non-fiction from 10-15 years back is good stuff. Not always correct (at the time or in hindsight), but it was thoughtful, provocative stuff. His expertise was NOT Russia (or things Russian), though. And that's what you're basing your comments on; his Russia(n) expertise.

Now, to the first question. Thank you for asking.

Not that I didn't have an opportunity to do some of those things (in public and/or behind the scenes). It wouldn't have been on Fox for what Ralph did on Fox, though, because my expertise was not Grand Strategy and that's what Fox hired him for. I could have gone on to do things in the Russia sphere or another area I was involved in, but decided against. In the end, I chose to retire (as a very senior and respected officer in my specialty) and go off the radar. Frankly, rather than seek further fame or fortune I decided to switch careers entirely and do things to help folks. Would still rather be off the radar, but times they are a bit crazy... (for instance, I would have preferred not to toot my own horn in this post or the previous one, but it was necessary to make the point that Ralph is not what he touts himself to be).

Have you ever read "Once An Eagle"? Might be worth your time if you haven't. Some folks are (clever) Massengales, some are (dumb) Damons. I'm in the latter group. I'll leave it to others to decide where Ralph belongs.
