Lunch...tip?

When ordering take out lunch from a restaurant, what do you generally tip?

I was just curious to know what others did. I normally do tip for take out but then started to wonder if anyone else did and if so how much.

It depends on how nice the people on the phone/at the counter are. I usually don't have much cash on me, but sometimes I'll throw in a dollar or some change.

If the food is ready when they said it would be and the order is correct, I usually leave a couple dollars. Hubby & I are a PITA with substitutions so if they get it right, it's a nice change for us.

As for curbside orders, I always tip them because they have to walk out to the car (well, unless they keep me waiting a long time).

I'd tip if I received curbside service.

I usually tip $2 if I order "take out" and pick it up myself.

If we order pizza, and I got pick it up, they get no tip.

Now that's a good point. When I pick up a pizza, I don't tip. Actually, I don't know anyone who tips when they pick up pizza. Yet for some reason I tip $2 when I pick up a burger and boneless wings at Ruby Tuesdays.

I work at a restaurant that offers curbside service. That being said, a to go, is just like being waited on in the establishment. With a few differences of course, you don't sit down to eat, it's boxed up for you, and no server to try and track down or bug you during your meal. But the positives are the same, you don't have to cook or clean up!

Tips are hit or miss. Do I expect them? Nope. Are they gratefully appreciated? Yep! If I make tips hostessing, I put that towards kids lunch money, tooth fairy stash, or if I want to get a soda or something like that. But a lot of it is based on what your order total is, of course the service, and whether or not everything is in the bag and the order is accurate...

I normally leave a $2 to $5 tip depending on the size of the order and how nice the people are waiting on me.
