My dog got his lyme and distemper shot earlier today. Now he is acting kind of sluggish and achy. Is this normal?

My Molly-Dog use to get that way after her shots, and the Doctor said that it was normal in the first 24 hours. Just keep an eye on the little Guy. Make sure that you have some Adult Benedryl around, just in case. If you feel like he is having a reaction, call the Vet for the proper doseage. I'm sure he's fine.

Thanks guys. Luv-not sure of his age...I'm thinking 8 maybe. (he is a rescue dog)

Could be just a normal reaction to the shot. If he isnt improving after 24 hours, call your vet just to be on the safe side. Hope he is fine and bless you for taking in a rescue, they tend to be the best dogs. :howdy:

He is a great dog. If I was more computer literate I would post his picture. He is a white miniature poodle (but kind of big for a poodle).

He is still not himself at all. Very sore, achy, favoring one rear leg...which is NOT the leg he got a shot in. So that's weird. Vet said give him 1 1/2 benadryl every 6-8 hours. If he's not better tomorrow take him to vet. Fingers crossed that this will pass today.

Poor baby, I hope he feels better. Maybe its because he is a little older. Sure hope everything turns out good for him. Keep us informed.

Bless your Heart for not only taking in a Rescue, but also one that is older. I think you are great. My Well Wishes to the little guy, and as posted earlier, keep us informed. :flowers:

How is your boy doing?

He is good now. It took until Wed AM before he got better. It was scary Tuesday he was so sore. I made a vet appt for Wed, but he was so much better that I cancelled it. I take him back in two weeks for his 2nd Lyme shot and they told me to give him benedryl before I come. Thank you for asking. :howdy:

I wouldn't take him back for his 2nd shot, but that's just me.

My Pup had a weird reaction to the Lyme, or the intranasal Bordatella. We're not sure which one it was, but it caused a condition called Uvitis. Both her eyes swelled, and she was on low dose Prednisone for it. I never Board her, so I will forget about that in the future. My Vet now premedicates her before giving any shots. Next year, we'll do Blood Titers to see if she has immunity, and if so, that shot won't be given. I am happy to hear that your Pup snapped out of it, and is doing fine now. :cartwheel
