Madagascar ICE exhibit-National Harbor

Be prepared! While the display was quite amazing, it is a very difficult enviornment for young ones. Long wait, even with tickets for a designated time. Super, super cold, and a baby or young toddler would be very unhappy. Also, darn crowded, and a bit hard to keep an eye on little ones.

Great for older kids and adults, though!

We were there this morning. (Sunday). How many kids and how old? Be prepared to wait...and wait...and wait again. It is so bitter cold in there. They give you parkas, but you must have mittens and sensible shoes. More info for you depending on the age of your kids.

Going as adults only, but one older with bad back and one mid-age (myself) with bad hips...so hoping the Friday lunchtime might have been a better call for planning.

But will share with others who plan on taking the kids.

I've wanted to go but last year we heard the same thing about the ridiculous wait times even with tickets so I can't be bothered until my little man is older. He's only 2.5 years old and nobody has the patience for a toddler waiting in a long azz line in the freezing cold.

Really, really smart move! Considering the price, I should think they could come up with a better system. You cannot take your child on your lap with you down the slide, so you must have a parent at the top, and one on the bottom if you don't want to lose your kid!

I hope you hit a slow time. There is a LOT of standing in line waiting, and there is no place to sit down. Be sure you bring mittens, sensible shoes and a hat (one of those mask kinds would even be smart).

We took our toddlers on opening night...there was no line at all...we bypassed all the set up line markers. My kiddos loved it (ages 3 and 2). It is cold in there though, but they put the parkas on top of coats. We made sure to bring mittens and hats, so we didn't really get any whining from our girls. The note about the slide is accurate though...make sure someone is available to put the kid on the slide and to catch at the bottom...We had to send our girls down 3 times, and it was still a little bit of a fight to get them to move on :). It was fun though! I will note all the comments about the long wait... we will just plan to go opening weekend each year.

We went last year on January 9, and there was no wait at all. They actually let us go in before our scheduled time. We spent a long time at the slides since there wasn't many people in there. We could actually take our time and enjoy it since there wasn't a crowd pushing you through.

I'll have to remember either opening night, or after the holiday rush, huh? You two sound like you're a lot smarter than me!

We went this past Thursday at 630 and it wasn't crowded. Maybe 20 people were there. Same thing last year, we went on a weekday and last time slot at 630 and we were the only ones in there. Try a weekday, you couldnt pay me enough to go on a weekend.

Went on a Tuesday at 6. No wait, walked right on in, picked up ticked and went right to the movie preview thing right away. Parking tip; if you plan on being there just a short amount of time, the parking garage to the left (as you're looking at the entrance to the event) of the event. It is much cheaper than the one advertised as ICE Parking. After we had buzzed through the event and went back to the car, it was only $3 for parking.

Thanks for the great tips on when to go/where to park. A friend of ours went with her family this past weekend and they stood next to a 15 foot ice angel for a picture. Part of the angel unexpectedly broke off as they stood there, just missing them. Their toddler was scared to death and wouldn't stop crying so they had to leave after only being there 15 minutes. Can't even imagine how heavy that piece of ice was, thank God it missed them! :yikes:

If you are taking older kids pick the later times. The earlier times is when the little kids are going. Last year we did one of the last times and breezed right through on a weekend.
