Put another receiver there. Place the current receiver where the replacement one came from. If it's still the same, it's the cable run from the wall to the splitter/multi-switch.

It's the receiver!!! The brand-freaking-new receiver they JUST sent us!! Now we're losing all of the programming we've recorded. :burning:

Buy a ReplayTV off Ebay ....

What are those? Just another brand DVR? DirecTV is sending us another one. But like GW said, they're all refurbished. I told them I wanted a new one, since their refurbished ones are junk, and they said they can't do that. So, we'll give them the benefit of the doubt this time, and if it breaks we're cancelling service.

Just be careful. We canceled our service because of the same issue.. after going through 2 different DVR boxes. When you get a new box they automatically sign you up for a new 2 year agreement. We had to pay the early cancellation fee.

Yeah, we said the same thing.. but after they sent a collection agency after us, ended up paying. Still bitter. One positive is that Metrocast offered $300 in vouchers for switching over. So, it all evened out in the end.

Well, don't they have to tell you that they're extending the contract? We've made several programming change since my 2-year contract expired (over a year ago) and they haven't said a word about extending the contract. Perhaps because you were still in your contract, they extended it. We did not make any changes until we were a month-to-month customer.

nah, they just start your contract again. the only way you can avoid it is to buy your own equipment, and even then they try to stick you with the ETF.

What's ETF? We'll see how this "new" DVR receiver is. Hopefully it'll come today. Hopefully we won't have problems and we won't have to cancel service. It's just as much of a PITA to get new service with someone else, because you have to take off work to be there when they install.

early termination fee......

DTV charges soemthing like 175 if you leave before the 2 year mark.

Gotcha. If my contract expired, I'd think they'd have to at least tell me they were signing me up for another contract. They never did that.

We were a loyal customer of 5 years. That's the thing that got me. The operator said nothing about starting a new 2 year contract when we got a new DVR. We had the old Tivo based one and when that died, I figured they would just send us a new one. That was the only change we made in 5 years with them. When they told me I had to pay the early cancellation, I went back and there was a paper in with the new receiver saying that if I did not return it within a specific time frame (15 days?) then I was agreeing to a new 2 year contract. Just very shady to me that they didn't make that clear when I called for the replacement. You might be fine, but I would just make sure you are aware of everything before you cancel your service.
