Mammogram question

mama to two
I wish they would just do the sonogram. The thoughts of a mammogram are very unpleasant, and that's part of the reason that it's taken so long for me to go. Now, if they jammed some lifting agent in there at the same time, then the discomfort would be worth it

Yes, this is the first time I have skipped my yearly mamo. I have always believed that the mamo machine was invented by a man, and was designed through research of Medieval torture devices. I like your reference to the lifting at the same time thing! That would make the discomfort worth it!

I got my mammogram results back by letter from radiology, they are normal, but the letter from radiology says "your breast density is dense". I'm like wtf does that mean?? I understand in some states that laws are now in place where they have to notify women of this condition. I was just wondering how common this is? Anyone else get this? Admittedly at first I was kind of happy as I was reading it via Google, meaning it means I'm still young and firm, I'm mid 40s, etc. :yahoo: Then I read higher cancer risk, ACK!!... my mom's mother and and her sister died of breast cancer. Anyone else get told this? Is it just me? is this normal?

First and foremost-thank you for getting a mammogram, believe it or not lots of gals don't!
For peace of mind, you can have genetic screening done to rule out any potential inherited gene(s.) For gals/guys with a family history, I wholeheartedly recommend it! It gave me (and my family) peace of mind dealing w/my cancers.

I'd never miss one, have gone every year, (sometimes had to got twice a year) for the last 8 years. I've always done it in October, it seems to give me that extra push. It's a bad idea to put it off, just like the yearly gyno visit and physicals, hate those too, but would never miss one. A few times, I didn't have health insurance and still went and paid out of pocket just for the peace of mind.

This doesn't really address it

Breast imaging in symptomatic younger women: ultrasound vs. mammogram?

Here

Ultrasound has become a valuable tool to use along with mammography because it is widely available and less expensive than other options, such as MRI. The use of ultrasound instead of mammograms for breast cancer screening is not recommended. Usually, breast ultrasound is used to target a specific area of concern found on the mammogram. Ultrasound helps distinguish between cysts (fluid-filled sacs) and solid masses and sometimes can help tell the difference between benign and cancerous tumors.

Ultrasound may be most helpful in women with very dense breasts. Clinical trials are now looking at the benefits and risks of adding breast ultrasound to screening mammograms in women with dense breasts and a higher risk of breast cancer.

Wouldn't it be nice if Men had their Prostate Checks done with a Mammogram machine? Sorry guys, I just had to say that.
