Man accused of castrating dog without permission - wtop.com

"KENSAL, N.D. (AP) - A Kensal man faces charges for allegedly castrating a woman's dog. Television station WDAY reported 55-year-old Kevin Gienger was arrested on suspicion of stolen property and mistreating animals in last weekend's incident. He's since been released from jail.

The Stutsman County sheriff's office said the purebred poodle was found at Gienger's home, along with scalpels and syringes."

This is yet another reason not to let your dog out w/o a fence or leash. Or leave it outside all day. People do crazy shiat.

Woman is lucky the dog wasn't run over or bit a kid or etc etc etc.

It's crazy that someone would do it themselves! I assume the person was trained, but still.

My point was that if the woman was being responsible in the first place, never would have happened... not to her dog, anyway.

Dead dogs on the side of the road, kids mauled by strays, etc is a pretty common thing.... irresponsible owners are rampant. Independent neuterers are not.

Priorities. :yay:

Love the name for it...=)

You are so correct again Turbo!

At first I thought it was a vet that took it into his own to fix a dog. YIKES...But Turbo is correct it isn't likely.

Neuters used be done by rubber band tied around a key area tight to cut off blood supply and it would slowly do its thing. It is NOT legal in dogs or cats, but I think it was used with them at one time. I believe it still maybe done with some livestock. I can't imagine, but times of olde people did what they had to with the means they had to do it.

I KNOW it's still done - with strong/tight rubber bands - I think they call them castration bands? Those are used on young critters (just a few days/weeks old I was told). There are tools sold to stretch them to get them over the "objects", and whammo it releases and said critter hops and jumps around a bit ...... awful to watch. Interestingly the critter settles down pretty fast - I think the area loses blood and goes numb? (we can only hope numbness sets in fast).

I've seen people do it to goats and I bet they use them on sheep and other critters.

I had an adult rescue goat castrated by the farm vet and it was something I never want to witness again in life. Goats don't respond to anesthesia like other critters and this young (new) vet kept giving him injection after injection (was her first goat castration) but he kept fighting and I felt horrible holding him down and hearing him scream. Wish I had just left him intact and found him a home as an intact male.

As wrong as this person was for castrating the dog, the owner is just as wrong for the dog getting out.

If there's one thing I can't stand, it's a loose dog. No matter what breed or size. Especially now that we have kids. God help the owner if they are ever bitten!

I have no tolerance for irresponsible pet owners.
