Vrai, We are in Jacksonville area and so far only light justy winds and sporatic rain showers. So far, not too bad....they say worse is yet to come though.

I was just watching the Weather Channel and it's awful. The devastation is going to incredible. I don't think my friends who evacuated from Ft. Pierce are going to have a home left to come back to. :bawl:

This storm is a slow mover! Radar looks almost the same as it did last night at midnight. Those poor people.

 Yeah! That is weird, because if you watched the Weather Channel, you would have noticed this thing barreling along "hurricane alley", coming out from the northwest of Africa, heading west to northwest at us post haste.
Then, when it gets to within a few hundred miles of Florida, it stalls, this huge mass of rotating fury, like it was pondering what to do. I think I heard where this thing has an "eye" about 80mi wide! Whew!

Good sci-fi story, no?

Just talked to Otter's daughter. Her mom is in Port St. Lucie, just north of Vero beach, and they didn't evacuate. They are fine, home is fine, lots of damage to trees, etc. but they haven't been out yet, storm is still there.

I think Frances has slowed to allow Ivan to get a little closer before pressing on. Ivan is taking a similar track as what Frances did. I guess all those "manufactured homes" really do attract disaster.

:howdy: Gee Catt, it's good to hear that; I don't know, if it was me living down there and I have - in Panama City - I think I'd have given serious thought to evacuating with a storm that size.

I rode out two of them while I lived there, and it got a little scary. Problem is, you have to get out early, because if you wait too long, it's hard to predict what the darn storm is going to do, and there's the danger every move you make steers you right back into it.

When were you living down there?

When I was looking to move to the panhandle, we went to this restaurant in destin. On the wall they had the before/after pics of their restaurant when opal came through. Amazing what these storms can do.

My Florida castaways are stressed and I could see that in my aunt’s face last night. Every time she turned on the news, she looked like she was going to cry. They are just outside Melbourne and getting the worst of it. My grandmother is with her sister staying in a church in Brevard County, but every one already has damage from Charlies, now Frances and in a few days they will be expecting Ivan. :ohwell:

Glad to hear it's not too bad so far - hope it stays that way. Fox has been on this exclusively for two days now. Little blips about other stuff, but mostly it's all about Florida.

It's now 1:15pm Sunday, We are getting feeder bands thru Jax area now. Very heavy blowing rain and higher wind gusts when they come thru. No damage to be seen in neighborhood yet. No trees down, no house damages. Some widespread power outages but not here yet. We have had a few power surges though. All the news channels are on the storm exclusively, seen lots of damage in southern areas.

ST, I lived in Panama City from Apr. 1985 until July 1989. I liked it a lot living there; lived in a township known as Callaway, maybe 12 miles from the "beach", but there was water all around us for fishing and skiing, crabbing, whatever.
Humidity was a little higher, and we only saw snow flurries once all the time I was there!
I remember seeing an advertisement for "Get your snow tires in Dothan, Alabama Goodyear Tire Service" :lmao:

Has anyone seen a projected path for this storm? I haven't found one.
