Manny's not eating again...

I have to say I agree with you on the start a donation for the kitties as going to the vet always seems to cost 100.00 or more every time you walk in the door wether the animal is healthy or sick.

Yeah, I keep saying I'm going to start a savings account so that I have some money put aside for my cats, but then something happens and wipes it out. *sigh*

At the end of the month Yates's last surgery will be paid off and we can get this next surgery started. Yippee?

Yay for eatings!!!

If it's going to be an on-going issue, Vaseline is the cheapest remedy (petroleum is the active ingredient in all of the hairball remedies, the other stuff is mostly just flavor). Some cats will eat Vaseline just fine, others won't mind if you dab it on their nose, but some will be really offended and the best thing to do is get the flavored stuff that they'll eat themselves.

Still, THE cheapest remedy is exercise (which stimulates the intestines to move instead of allowing the hair to sit there) and grooming. I LOVE the furminator brush that I have. Nothing gets hair off like that thing! The key is to get them used to it gradually. Leave it around the house for awhile... then show it to them... then one swipe and give a treat... etc.

Unless you have a brush whore like Yates. He LOVES it. I can brush him for hours.

I'm so happy for you and Manny!

Yeah, I got the Furminator too, and he loves being brushed. He'll also get back into the habit of playing and tearing azz around the apartment now that he's recovered so well from his incision.

I bought them a treat when I went to Petco today.

He ate lunch, then ate early evening, coughed up a hairball, that's the last I heard. She feeds them both light meals when she gets home, then again before she goes to bed. It's seems to be helping with Manny's eating behavior (eating like he hasn't been fed in a week)...smaller meals more often.

He was playing and running around when I stopped in after work yesterday. If I hear from her before I head out of town, I'll post an update.

No. I suggested she cancel it. She contacted MASH, and they did a complete blood work up and everything came back negative. They've cut him from azzhole to appetite, and found nothing. She's waiting for labs from the biopsy...another costly visit isn't going to do any good when he's not showing any signs of illness.

I think he just has hair ball issues, to be perfectly honest. She also suggested that maybe what was seen on the xray was a hair ball. I wonder if the vet's at MASH maybe jumped the gun on surgery.

I share your opinion. :yay:

Good....

I picked up some hairball remedy stuff yesterday, and a grass kit for her to start growing, and suggested she use the furminator more often.

Actually, she might consider feeding them a different food. Since I started feeding the holistic foods, the barfing/hairballs has been significantly reduced.

Most "hairball" foods have fiber, which seems kinda backwards to me (why would you want to feed your cat fiber?). I like your suggestion of a natural food approach better.

We're going to do a trial of the Wellness duck/turkey packets on Yates this weekend to see if we can get him off of the expensive prescription duck/green pea food that's killing my cat budget. Royal Canin is a good brand, but not terribly holistic.

I've heard that feeding something with a large kibble can also help (slow down ingestion rate), but I've only found dental foods with large kibbles, not holistic foods, and definitely nothing that meets Yates's allergy requirements. :-(

She'll read this...I'm sure she'll take it into consideration. She's very concerned about Manny's health. She's a very good kitty mommy.

You know she also has a special needs kitty...Mittens. Not as bad as we suspected, and not nearly as delicate as we expected. She's allergic to plastic, though. She has really surprised us with how well she has adjusted. :yay:
