Margarita Pizza

It has the colors of the Italian flag: red (tomato sauce), white (motzarella), and green (basil). It was named after a noble in the province of Savoy.

Pizza Margherita was named in honor of Queen Margherita. The origin accepted is Neopolitan (Naples).

Try Ruddy Duck

They use to have the most authentic Italian pizza in the region - not NY Style, authentic Italian.

Having Fun!
Pizza Margherita -- Ruddy Duck.

BUT, the best pizza that I've ever eaten hands down is the Bruschetta Pizza from Villa Victoria Pizzeria in Montclair, NJ. I normally only eat one slice of whatever kind of pizza is in front of me. This one, I've eaten 3 huge slices at one sitting -- omg it's some kind of GOOD!

Damn -- now I'm going to have to go see if I can recreate it...hmm...fresh tomatoes from garden (check), fresh basil from garden (check), fresh pizza dough (gotta thaw out from freezer), fresh mozzarella -- road trip to grocery store, red onion (check), olive oil (of course)... dinner tomorrow. The rest of the family can fend for themselves if they don't like it! :coffee:

I love Texas Road House
Was up in Brooklyn NY last week and enjoyed my first and only Margarita Pizza. Does anyone know of any local establishments that offer this NY born delicacy? :yum:

I would like to rip my clothes of and rub that pizza all over myself.

I wish! I had something a little closer to home in mind.

Well since GWGuy is from NY and says they have the best pizza in the US, I nominate him to make us authentic tasting Margherita pizzas! :yay:

I don't remember eating pizza..but I SURE remember eating "road kill" and eating in restaurants with roaches as big as my head crawling on the walls..:killingme

You never ate pizza in Naples? :eyebrow:

I lived there from 1967-1972. (age 7-13) It's possible I just don't remember, but the pizzerias I am recalling would have been in the Pozzuoli and Arco Felice areas. Ancient buildings, but never dirty inside a restaurant that I remember. Of course, they used those plastic streamer things & pest strips in the doorways to keep out flies! We also lived across the street from a butcher for a couple of years. THAT was an experience to remember. The front was an open shop - right on the street - so I guess bugs would get in. It wasn't like our standards here in the states, but back then all standards were different, I suppose. However, as petrified as I am of them, I know I never saw roaches like that in a restaurant or I'd have never stepped foot in it again! Rats in the streets, I do remember.

But I am sure I most certainly never ate roadkill!

Carrabba's always has it on their menu. I always thought it was an Italian speciality pizza, not a Yankee thing. Especially since it originated in Napels and was named after Queen Margherita over a hundred years ago.

:lmao: That would be the last pie you ever ask me to make! I know good pizza, but I just cannot make a good crust. And you really need the stone oven, not these chain conveyor belt things.

the poor dad
I was in NYC last week and had the margherita pizza at John's Pizzeria in Midtown Manhattan. I would have loved it IF it had some kind of meat on it...pizza is not pizza without substance!

You’re probably the reason why I can hardly find a decent pizza in the frozen food section without pepperoni on it.
