Here's an update. I am registered Independent in Maricopa County. In Maricopa County, Arizona an Independent chooses what ballot they want to vote. I chose the Republican ballot.

I was notified by email and text that my ballot had been mailed.
I filled out my ballot and inserted it in the proper envelope, signed the envelope and filled in my phone number, according to instructions.
I put my ballot, in the properly signed envelope, in the outgoing mail slot.
The next day, I received an email and text that my ballot had arrived at Maricopa County Elections by mail.
Yesterday, I received an email and text that my signature had been verified. I was also informed that when the votes are counted, beginning July 19th [primary] my ballot would be scanned and counted.

So... I figured since Arizona is such a hot spot for arguments about mail in ballots.... I'd keep you informed about the process first hand.

I was an election judge for Calvert County, Maryland for years. I also worked as an election judge in Maricopa County for the 2016 election. So.... I know a thing or two.

So far, they are doing it right. My numbered mail in ballot is tracking nicely.
